As we had spent nearly all of our time in small peaceful communities it was a bit busy for our liking. We were happy having booked a city tour by tuk tuk . The tour gave us a great overview of the main sites in the city which we never would have managed on our own .

Different areas of this incredible city have their own...
Different areas of this incredible city have their own character and offerings for the visitor, so it's worth varying the locations during a stay to find what best suits one's needs and preferences. We found Mount Lavinia more walkable and good for live music. Mount Lavinia Hotel for example is a beautiful example of Brit/Ceylon architecture with a very interesting history and, even for non-guests, has an excellent lunch and dinner buffet, as well as free pool access and regular high-standard live entertainment. Nearby restaurants also had live music mid-week. Colombo generally has an enormous wealth of visitor attractions reflective of its complex and ancient history and culture for travellers (at any level of budget) who can see past the crowded commerce and traffic to the marvels and beauty of the capital of this ancient land, while seeking a deeper and more transformative experience. Overlaying all that's on offer is the entrenched good-humoured KINDNESS of the Sri Lankan people, so profound and genuine it can veritably astound the newcomer. Modern Sri Lanka has long taken back its dignity from its colonial past, but its intrinsic imperative of human generosity has remained a constant. Colombo, along with every city, town and village of Sri Lanka offers jewels, metaphorically and physically, to the visitor, like no other nation on the planet, and must not be missed by those who have the ability to perceive its value.
All that said, Sri Lankan cities need to implement vehicle pollution laws! Sensitive noses are well-served by masks.

Colombo city is very vibrant and busy,as most city's are.
Colombo city is very vibrant and busy,as most city's are. there are plenty of places to visit and plenty of economical restaurants offering genuine Sri lankan cuisine. I have only one disappointment about Colombo in general, which I would be more than happy to discuss with the Sri Lanken tourist board, should they contact me.

Several good malls including my favorite on the sea front, with good eating choices, places to get haircut, manicure etc. Galle Face mall reasonably close to several sites of interest e.g. lighthouse, clock tower.
Tuk tuk drivers can be a pain, taking you to the wrong hotel, or trying to get you go somewhere other than your destination e.g. gem store, massge spa. Be firm, if find good one get his number.
Good base for excellent day excursions to Galle Fort, a world heritage site. Also went to Kandi and its wondeful temple and nearby gardens.
Went in July, hot but could walk reasonable distance, unlike my next stop Dubai.
If went back I might be tempted to split time with Galle.

The Hotelmanager was one of the nicest and best Hosts we had after 1,5 Year of traveling. He picked us up at the airport in the middle of night. After asking, where we can find some food at this time, we went together to a restaurant and had very interesting conversations. He was the perfect combination of a friend and a very professional hotelmanager.
The Location of the Hotel was very good, also the food!
We will definitely come back, when we go to Colombo.
The room was very beautifully designed and very comfortable. Actually the architecture of the whole hotel was beautifully crafted.
There was a smart TV available, not very common for Sri Lankan hotels. The room and bathrooms were very clean.
The front office manager Deeptha and the rest of the staff were very friendly and helpful.
The location in the heart of Colombo is very easily accessible and there are lots of eateries and shopping around the area.
I had a very nice stay at C1. The best hostel in Sri Lanka so far. All employees are very friendly. Very nice building with modern furniture, huge lobby area with free coffee and tea, huge dorms with lockers, cosy beds and AC. Everything is very clean, bathroom too.
The hostel is located centrally close to Colombo Railway station and the beach (Galle Face Green).
The hotel is immaculate, no expense spared is truely a luxury property. Free mini bar was nice!! Also nice to see hand towels and face washer towel as well not seen in any other hotel in Sri Lanka. The pool is amazing and so are the views
The hotel looked and felt like a 4 star hotel with a little old Sri Lanka charm. The highlight was Razik, Razik was a room attendant with a real focus on people, making people happy and getting people what they need.
