There was a large accumulation of garbage on every strret corner and everywhere you looked. The garbage trucks did come round on a regular basis but didnt collect any that had been dumped elsewhere. The Malecon had been a beautiful place but was full of drunks and druggies all the time, sleeping on the benches day and night. There was not one chair or restaurant anywhere on the beach in that whole area for you to sit and enjoy the ocean view. the road in front of the Malecon was flooded the whole 3 weeks we were there with sewerage smelling water . Lots of abandoned dogs needing help and in very poor shape which really upset me. Would never go there again, it was far from an enjoyable experience.

La Penita has the feel of a real working class town that tourists/ expatriates visit. In that way it was totally unlike the next door Guyabitos. Although all amenities for visitors are found in La Penita, even restaurants catering to Canadian/American tastes, the overall sense of the town is that it meant to serve Mexicans.

This little jem saved my vacation.

This little jem saved my vacation. We came into town late to find our Airbnb a mess. We had to find another place that night at the last minute and thankfully found The Luxury. It's as advertised, clean inside with a beautiful pool, cafe and bar. The location isn't great but the beach is just down the street. We decided to stay another night and made our way back to Sayulita for the remainder of our trip. Thanks again Luxury, you saved my vacation!

To be honest, I really didn't know where I was coming.

To be honest, I really didn't know where I was coming. It was a bit of a surprise, but a pleasant one for the most part. Living right with the Mexican people was a joy. They are very happy people. I never once felt unsafe, even walking at night. I never saw any unruly behavior by anyone. I especially loved to see the children walk to school in the morning with their uniforms on. They were all so meticulously dressed. Beautiful!
