Called the Amber Capital of the World, Gdańsk is the major shipping seaport and the most beautiful city along the Polish Baltic coast. It has everything from fascinating history and great architecture to a friendly atmosphere!
Also known as Danzig due to its complex past with periods of Polish, German and self-rule, the city is part of the Tricity urban area together with the port city of Gdynia and the popular spa town Sopot. It’s also a birthplace of the world-famous Solidarity movement, which helped to bring down Communist rule in Poland, initiating the end of the Cold War era.
Its charming buildings were rebuilt in a historical style after the city's near-complete destruction during World War II. You can admire the colorful townhouses of the Old Town by boat on the Motlawa River or by strolling down the popular Long Street and Long Market.
While in Gdańsk, make sure you visit the 15th-century St. Mary’s Church, the largest brick church in Europe, and make a wish at the Neptune Fountain, the city’s patron. While in town, try the legendary local Goldwasser liqueur with 22 karat gold flakes!
Whether you reach Gdańsk by train or plane, Booking.com has a variety of accommodations near the Lech Walesa Airport, the picturesque Old Town or the general city center.
A small but lovely city with lots and lots of history.
A small but lovely city with lots and lots of history.
Visited the Westerplatte, which was were WW11 began, a really atmospheric place, which brought home the horror of war.
Solidarity museum and shipyard, was also a must see, another piece of history.
We also visited Sopot, a beach area. This was a very popular place, lots of people around, very pretty.
All in all I would certainly reccomend a vist to Gdansk.

Gdansk got tons of things to do, especially if you appreciate history, art, culture and architecture. The visit to malbork and the old town (especially the old town city hall) a well as the European solidarity centrum were among the best activities.
The city got excellent beer as well as food regardless of you want international food such as burgers and pasta or local polish cuisines such as pierogi well as more museums and sight seeing than you can do in a week, you could easily stay here two a weeks without seeing most of the city and what the areas near by have to offer.
I wish we had two weeks here instead of one.
If I have anything negative to say about the city it's mostly thet the public transport system is a bit confusing (download jakdojade!) but there are tons of options for transport as well as tight departures. Also the traffic can be a bit too much sometimes as the cars ok the big roads travel very quickly with little regard to traffic regulations and pedestrians.

Such a clean and beautiful city.
Such a clean and beautiful city. We only stayed and looked at the main old town area plus the shipyards. Spent 2.5 days exploring on foot. Very flat easy walking. St Bridgit’s church is a must see with its incredible amber alter and St Mary’s stained glass and clim to the bell tower top was great too! 400 steps though so not for everyone.

Some lovely architecture and nice beaches at Sopot.
Some lovely architecture and nice beaches at Sopot. Gdynia was very disappointing. Most buildings in the old town are amber jewellery shops, currency exchange, restaurants, or coffee shops (which are nothing special). There isn't much else unless you go to a generic shopping centre. There are places of interest, monuments, museum etc but overall a little disappointing. Not as interesting as Warsaw or Krakow.

Nice old town to visite on a weekend.
Nice old town to visite on a weekend.
We strongly recommend that you also take a fast train to Sopot which is a lovely little sea town with a very large and beautiful bridge on the sea.
Children will probably love to go on a pirate boat trip but do it when it is warm otherwise you will freeze.
The Amber Museum in Gdansk is absolutely beautiful. Dont miss it.
Food was quite ok. There are restaurang everywhere.
People are very friendly.

There is not enough space to say all I want to here.
There is not enough space to say all I want to here. I love Gdansk and everything about it, and if you haven't been there, then WHY ON EARTH NOT?
Go there at once and DON'T just stick to the old town and Dluga street. These are really good, and I love them too (as I do everything). But there is so much more. Day trips galore, great parks, excellent walking, a huge variety of restaurants and cafes, the river, the many miles of wonderful smooth sandy beaches (and the water is NOT always so cold as you might think!)
Gdansk old town for architecture and history.
Gdansk Wrzeszcz for restaurants and cafes.
Gdansk Oliwa for the fabulous Park Oliwskie.
Sopot and Gdynia for additional fun!
Getting around couldn't be easier with trams and buses galore. Using Google Maps to help you, you'll be able to get everywhere.
OMG I totally LOVE THIS PLACE, and every time spent there is full of great things!
The hotel is very well located; it is exactly where you want to be in the Old Town. The staff at the front desk polite and helpful. My room was spacious, clean and well equipped. It was nice to have a little fridge, a working desk, a sofa and a relatively big bathroom. The air conditioning was working very well and rather quiet. The bed was very comfortable. The elevator is a huge plus. Pretty good restaurant; I recommend it.
The hotel is in a great location, in the Old Town, and not too far to the main train station. We used the taxi from the airport organised by the hotel which suited us. The room was spacious and clean. We had a great view of the river from our window.
We enjoyed the buffet style breakfast. The reception staff were friendly and helpful, as were those in the eating areas. It was good to have a fridge in the room too.
The location of the hotel in the heart of the old town is perfect. The staff were very friendly and helpful, particularly Jakub who also makes the best Mai Tai cocktails I have ever had. Lovely clean and spacious rooms with very comfy beds and pillows. The hotel in general has a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere and smells really good. Visited mid December and the Christmas tree in the foyer was beautiful addition.
Absolutely great place to stay. Very nice hotel, nice and friendly staff, delicious breakfasts with plenty of food options to choose from, very good restaurant with decent prices and the location ... 20 seconds walking distance from the Neptune fountain as the hotel is located right in the center of the Old Town.
I'll definitely be back and highly recommend Artus Hotel as the best place to stay in Gdansk!
The hotel was easy to reach from both airport and city centre: although located around 3km from the old town, there are good bus connections running regularly. Our room was nice and cozy, with modern touches. Breakfast was alright, many items to choose from though mostly Eastern European flavours. Very friendly staff, they allowed us to leave our luggages at the hotel as our flight was late at night.
Everything! Very friendly, clean and comfortable boutique hotel. Loved the very central location, but with good soundproofing from the street below. Great to have the choice of open windows or air conditioning. The breakfast buffet choice was incredible - right up until 11am. The staff were all so friendly, efficient and helpful. It was a great introduction to Poland and we would love to return.
Perfect location. Especially, if you require to get early to the airport by bus or take a train. Famous shipyard is in walking distance and the Old Town (called Main Town here ;) ) is within 15 minutes walk. Even seaside with nice beach is accessible in 30 minutes by tram. Apartament is comfy with all you might need and host is very friendly. Recommended.
I travel to Gdansk, Poland regularly and have stayed over many places over the years. This time is stayed in Hampton by Hilton Gdansk Old Town for the very first time and it was absolutely lovely with central location, very clean and tidy room with excellent breakfast choices. I would highly recommend this place for any future travellers.
The best part abouy the hotel was the location! Very central and close to all the main attractions of Gdansk (and ~15 minutes on foot from the public bus stop to the airport). The double room was great, very comfortable and spacious. The breakfast had a variety of options and some of them were changing every few days.
Perfect location, 1 minute from the main tourist area, silent, clean. Free coffee 24/7 at the reception for the guests. Very helpful hotel staff in the evening (two young ladies most of the days). Great breakfast, although quite expensive (but it's a common thing in Poland, breakfast outside would not be cheaper).
the location was close proximity to the train station and close to the city centre. the buffet breakfast was great and the staff was very friendly. i would definately recommend the hotel for long stay as well. we stayed for 3 nights. the hotel had also a elevator which was good since we had baggage.
We had an absolutely wonderful stay in this trendy and unique hotel! We were impressed with everything from the moment we arrived, including the staff and facilities. We enjoyed private underground parking and comfortable rooms. The location is perfect just outside one of the gates of the old town.
When I booked this hotel I was attracted by the history of the place and by the fact that it was a 4 stars hotel. I still think it has a lot of potential, but some things must change.
The location is quite close to the old town, 15-20 minutes walk.
much cheaper yet much more
spacious compared to other hotels.
good service. enough room to sleep 4
people.
nice apartment. only about a 15 minute
walk to the Gdańsk city center.
had a big balcony (amazing to watch
the sunset!!!)
very nice location, 5min to the old town, 5min to railway station but quiet.
clean, more to the hotel experience than apartment rent.
Coffee machine, enough place to work, comfortable sofa to rest in the middle of the day.
Roksana and mateusz are the best receptionists in poland. Every time i visit, they make me feel very special and are very professional
and attentive. They make it feel very personal. Absolute credit to the Hilton group.
Excellent location. Quiet, almost tranquile area and so close to the city centre and ample free parking. Inside the hotel building is so quiet like in a fortress.
Everything was great and as expected, the apartment was spacious and comfortable, walking distance from the beach and 20 mins by tram to the city centre.
