The room was clean and well appointed. Most importantly, as I was staying during a heatwave, the AC was effective and quiet. The small outside area did look an appealing place to relax, green and verdant, but perhaps in weather that was not so fierce!! I certainly hope to come back some time when the sun is a little more tolerant of European sensibilities!

We came six years ago and loved it and said that we would like to visit again.
I wouldn't come again after this time?
The accommodation was not very good.
The whole place seems to have gone down hill.
It's more expensive.
It's dirtier for sure.
We witnessed tourists being chased by a big pack of big dogs and the people had to run over the road to escape?
Quite disappointing.
The host didn't help being so intrusive and breaking the handle clean off my suitcase.
The owner walked away leaving us stunned!
Didn't even offer any recompense for ruining a new siutcase?
I still do not understand how he he managed to break it ?
This guy was like a camper, crazier version of Alan Carr.
Everything shuts at 9-10pm

Ayutthaya was an amazing experience - after visiting Thailand hundreds of times over 40 years - I finally made it there. It was tranquil, beautiful, romantic and incredibly interesting. Easy to get to from Bangkok by train - well worth considering!

Fantastic historical city, recommend taking morning river trip to various temples , accessible and cooler first thing. Also restaurants on the river bank for eating, use tuk tuk togetaround, they park right outside the hotel and know where to go quickly

We spent an evening and a morning here.
We spent an evening and a morning here. We arrived mid-pm direct from DMK Bangkok airport by train which took less than an hour and cost less than a pound. We went to a temple for sunset, visited a busy night market and had dinner by the river. Next am we drove around in a tuk tuk for 3 hours and visited nearly all the temples. Hot work but totally rewarding. I guess with more time we'd have done the museum as well although there's a lot of Ayutthaya to see in the National Museum in Bangkok.

Love his tory and ruins, then you will love this place.
Love his tory and ruins, then you will love this place. You can even dress up and get photo in traditional dress, or kick back in a local bar along one of the canals or go to the little floating market or the night market. Fun place, but lots of walking. Good value for money paid.

Great stay.
Great stay. We needed a few extra days to get around due to an elderly traveller however would recommend 2-3 days here, and a mix of night time and day visits to the temples. This is true old school Thailand, friendly, laidback and local pricing away from awful advantages tourism (sex, drugs, fire twirling)

The owner of this accommodation was very friendly. she was like a guestmum and made my stay super comfortable. It’s possible to leave the backpack there during the day and she tries to make you feel like at home. “this is your home” she explained to me.
When I booked this room I wasn’t sure how the stay would be. Now I know, it was definitely the right choice. If you are a backpacker and don’t need a modern hotel, book this accommodation. For me it was the right start for my backpacking tour through thailand.
It was a great experience staying at Ayutthaya Retreat, it was really different from all other hotels that we had in Thailand! Traditional old building, very friendly staff, great food, everything was really great. Our kids loved it, they keep talking about this hotel :-)
Such a great place to be at. The family running the hostel is REALLY nice and take care of everything. The hostel has such a nice vibe. They cook you free dinner and you have such a great time sharing it with the hostel travellers. Best hostel so far in Thailand
Don’t expect luxury but you get good value for money. The beds are comfortable. The airco is not loud. I had one of the best showers in Thailand in terms of temperature control. You can rent bikes and the owners are very friendly.
The staff was very very friendly, everything was made with love. It is very clean and comfortable, the location was great. One of the best places I stayed in Thailand!
