As soon as you drive into the De Opstal property you sense this is a different kind of place. The owners don’t just DO hospitality as a means to an end; they ARE hospitality embodied. It feels like it’s their life’s mission. De Opstal’s old charm accommodations are surrounded by magnificent flower gardens, fruit trees, and fields that are not over-manicured, rather reflective of the owners’ true love of nature and deep desire to create an environment for their guests that engages all their senses. The only downside was having to leave this slice of paradise.

Everything was great. One of the few times that nothing could be faulted. Would stay there again.

We enjoyed our stay at the hotel. The bathroom was a little outdated, but we could overlook that. We were really happy to have a fridge in the room. Staff were incredibly friendly and accomodating to our early mornings and the breakfast was nice. We had a great room with access to the pool for the kids. It's a great hotel for families with children, it suited the purpose of our stay.

Wow! I can’t say enough about the lodge, staff and facilities. The room “tent”, was well thought out, immaculate and the best possible. The tent was right out of a movie for an African safari. The food was amazing. The activities were awesome. We feed elephants and went on safari.
Located with the backdrop of the Swartberg Mountains, Oude Meul is en route to the Cango Caves. The property features 2 pools among extensive native gardens.

The town looked neat and tidy and I love the old architecture and quaint buildings and cozy little shops. With my own transport it was easy to get around and find parking. Met friendly staff at all the shops.

Was quite surprised by the wine tasting opportunities nearby in Calitzdorp. The Safari Ranch was great, Cango Wildlife Park was exceptional, excellent managed facility. The Buffelsdrift Game Lodge elephant experience was a bucket list type experience. The Chandelier Game Lodge Buffalo as well as Giraffe experience was awesome.
The Total Garage opposite the quaint Nostalgia Restaurant are friendly and have decent wood that is affordable. The Spar is well stocked and there is an emergency Clicks Pharmacy that supports that requirement.
All and all a pleasant holiday destination with many activities to plan over the course of a week visit.

Cango Caves - do the adventure tour.
Cango Caves - do the adventure tour. Conservation Centre - as ethical as sanctuaries open to the public can be, see a huge range of animals. Meerkat Tours - fun and cute but quite overpriced and the owner is horrendously misogynistic. Nostalgie restaurant - food was amazing, however park immediately in front of the restaurant and not any further - there are 'parking attendants' that demand money, and even after paying one the others come and intimidate you (banging on the car and throwing gun symbols).

Perfect place to stop over for the night or two.
Perfect place to stop over for the night or two. Other than that there is not much to do here.
You can find big supermarket for every day shopping. We eat at hotel restaurant as not much choice. A lot of powerful like in most places in SA, just got to be careful where and when you go out.
Great rural Klein Karoo location a short distance from Oudtshoorn itself, and within east reach by car to all the attractions that the area is known for. It is a well established and attractive property with several accommodation options and facilities as advertised , all well maintained. The staff were welcoming and efficient. The non-self catering luxury bush tent that we stayed in was private and comfortable, but is not suitable for someone with mobility issues. There is a restaurant and separate breakfast dining room on the property.
The most beautiful and comfortable place we have stayed in so far on our trip. The attention to detail made us feel truly relaxed, like a home away from home. We loved the treats left in our room, the cold drinking water left before bed, the welcome sherry drink and the honesty bar - it was a very welcoming space. Albert and Elza were particularly helpful on restaurant suggestions and provided all the activity information, which was much appreciated. Would come again and recommend to anyone visiting Oudtshoorn.
The bath and outdoor shower facilities were a highlight for us! The quietness and tranquility of the farm provides the perfect place for people to get a quiet weekend away. The views of the mountains around you are all encompassing and the sunrises are surreal. An absolute must stay in Oudtshoorn because its also close enough to all the main attractions like the Cango Caves, Karusa and Ostrich farm.
Convenient location right in the heart of Oudtshoorn - good for shopping, eating out and visiting Cango Caves and Ostrich farms. Charming older hotel - my room looked out to main street but still was quiet and comfortable. Included breakfast was especially nice served in the garden area. Staff was very helpful in getting laundry done which was much appreciated.
The hosts were very flexible on an early checkin and also on dietary concerns. They were also quick to upgrade the room stay. Very easy to work with and a beautiful property. The AC was great and the power was on despite blackouts nearby. They also were not trying to upcharge me for the special meal or for an Ostrich Farm tour in addition to the Meerkats.
I'm so glad I found this spot in the middle of Oudtshoorn. It felt like every possible need was catered for, and the setting was unexpectidly paraside like. The hospilatly, comfort and excellence experienced one might come to expect from places far more expensive. I'll definitely use La Pension again in the future.
+ Room was spacious and as in photos
+ The Balcony was large with good seats
+ Fitness area is usable
+ Loungers at the pool were good
+ Super quick response to questions via whatsapp
+ The Villa is very well located (near town exit to cango caves, buffelsdrift lodge and good restaurants)
The location near the city center but away from the busy streets is great. We were in a cottage which was very spacious for 5 people. The breakfast was simple but good. The staff super friendly! Dirkie noticed our car was very dirty and washed it while we were still asleep.
We love everything our accommodation was the best the staff and managers was like family. I would definitely recommend Cango Rest to everyone. My next trip to Oudtshoorn I would definitely stay at Cango Rest again. See you soon. Thank you very much for a lovely stay.
The room was as described and properly cleaned. Breakfast was good with very friendly staff. The animals around the farm were great for the kids. The location of the hotel was convenient between Oudtshoorn and the Cango Caves.
Amazing staff.... honest, with integrity... were so accommodating when we needed to switch to self catering... they made a plan for us... a wonderful place to say... we will definitely make this our first choice every time...
All done remotely, no contact with owners. Very efficient. No breakfast included. Had everything we needed for a basic one-night stay (to be close to Cango Caves). Pity that load shedding meant no fans as was sweltering heat!
