Often overlooked in favour of its neighbour, Osaka, Kobe is an absolute gem of a city. It has a multitude of attractions, from the port and harbourside parks to the wonderful Nunobiki herb garden and hillside hikes on the other side of the city, to the old foreign merchants houses in Kitano Ijinkan-gai and the Motomachi and Sannomiya entertainment and shopping areas, there's a huge amount to see and do in Kobe. We gorged ourselves on amazing food, saw historic houses, enjoyed walking through nature, enjoyed food markets and took a harbourside tour. Bakery RIKI near our accommodation in Motomachi sold the most amazing pastries and Nankin-machi (Chinatown) had a wonderful, crowded, hectic atmosphere with hundreds of stalls selling cheap, absolutely delicious food. We will definitely visit Kobe again.

i travel to kobe for work regularly and usually don't do much sight seeing there; it is easy to find my way around, find restaurants and there is easy access to all sorts of places to visit in the kansai area; once we stayed at the outskirts of kobe, up the mountains, with stunning views of the harbour (private accommodation, sadly gone now) but there are some other nice places to stay in and around the city

Kobe has a long history as a port town.
Kobe has a long history as a port town. If you come to Osaka or Kyoto, you should also visit Kobe. You will feel the atmosphere and characteristics of a sophisticated city that is completely different from these two. Compared to these two cities, Kobe has wider sidewalks and more walkable areas, but the city as a whole is compact and easy to get around. If you stay in Kobe, I highly recommend a hotel with a night view of the port city.

We stayed in Kobe three days during this Japan tour - it was just enough to enjoy the city (Chinatown, the covered market streets, the port area, the 'foreigner's area', and a nice small treck along mount Rokko waterfalls and gardens. Kobe is a medium size city, not overwhelming and easy to visit by foot.
The hotel is in a good location in the Sannomiya area, close to shops, good restaurants and everything you could possibly need. A 5-10 minute walk to Chinatown. The rooms were a bit bigger than most hotels we encountered in Japan, and whilst the beds were very firm, they were comfortable. Guests can make coffee in the lobby whenever they like, and there are free donuts each afternoon, which was a nice bonus. Breakfast was good, with a decent range of Japanese and Western options.
Very nice hotel. The rooms are quite large for Japan and have a bench by the window, which I thought was great. The bathroom is well equipped. The mattresses are comfortable. The breakfast buffet is quite varied with Asian dishes, fruits, breads, cereals and much more. From the hotel, you can easily explore Kobe on foot.
I alighted at Shin-Kobe station and cycled to the property, took ~15mins cycling time. It is near to metro station and there are many eateries and shops near the hotel; room is clean and well-equipped, everything worked well, attractive room rate. They use JAPAN Pola Shower Break body shampoo and it smells so good!!!
It is a pretty Japanese four-stories house, with kind and gentle staffs, once you arrived, everything will be taken cared. The dinner and breakfast are fabulous, which makes me feel insatiable, the kobe beef is one of the best(maybe no one of) I have eaten. Absolutely we will come back if time and finance available.
I can 100% recommend this guesthouse if you're staying at Kobe for a couple of nights ! The staff was super nice to me, I went to an izakaya one night together with one of them. They also speak fluent english so if you don't speak japanese that's absolutely not a problem. I really enjoyed my stay !
Nice view facing the sea. Location is good, near the motomachi shopping street and there is free shuttle to commute from Sanomiya station to the hotel.
The room is generally very clean as expected from Japanese standard, the bed is very comfortable and the room is spacious. Worth the money.
Great location - just a short walk from Sannomiya Station. Free Happy Hour drinks and snacks from 5pm-7pm. An outdoor giant chess board for entertainment during happy hour. And, of course, comfortable rooms with some of the best smelling soap and shampoo I have come across in Japan.
Clean hotel. The room I stayed was well laid out. I did not feel cramped like the other hotels I stayed in big cities in Japan that I paid more. I liked the television with a Chromecast, pajamas, and extensive amenities from drip bag coffees (two roast types!) to mouthwash.
I am falling in love with all the comfort hotel!
Super clean and comfortable, rooms are large for families, most importantly include breakfast which is super yummy and generous!
My kids kept saying that one of the best experience in Japan is staying at comfort hotel!
Beautiful room, only a little scuffed. Nice couch- I haven't experienced that in a Japanese hotel before. Bigger than the average small hotel room. Staff were very kind and accommodating. Lots of creams in the bathroom, more than I know what to do with. Huge TV.
Very Japanese styled hotel. I love the onsen there, it has both indoor and outdoor onsens. Also, staffs are very friendly, I’m not good at Japanese, so they use a translation machine to communicate with me. And it’s very close to 711 and bus station.
Great variety of restaurants and shops. Friendly and attentive service by hotel staff. Covered walkway to the Portliner train. Hot water pot was very handy. Room size was very large for hotels in Japan. Portopia shuttle was very convenient.
Spacious room which is usual for Japanese Hotel rooms and great for a toddler to explore around. Nice location close to Sannomiya overlooking the Ikuta-Jinja shrine next door. Hotel staff were helpful and hotel itself clean and tidy.
Gorgeous ryokan with good onsens. It was my first traditional Japanese hotel and onsen, so I was very impressed by hospitality, kaiseki dinner, the view, the room with tatami, yukata and hot springs. Totally recommend it!
I have visited a lot of business type hotel in Japan. This one is excellent value. Highly recommend and do get the double bed. A lot of biz hotels in Japan have sandbag like pillows; not here. Pillows very nice.
Location was close to where you will spend most of your time while visiting Kobe, the rooms were the biggest I have had in Japan and they were very nice. Definetely recommend this place for a high quality room!
Good breakfast, both Western and Japanese. Courteous and efficient staff everywhere - front desk, restaurant and cleaning. Train station is within a few minutes' walk.
The hotel was very clean and well managed. Beautiful grounds. The room was large and spacious. The food was an interesting mix of Japanese and Chinese.
