If there was an option to give more than 10 rating, we would have given it. This place is soo peaceful, the host is super sweet and we had such an amazing time that we never wanted to leave the place. We saw northern lights with red flare since there was no light pollution. The host even let us chase his sheep. Awesome and lovely place.

The owner gave us an exceptional service. We arrived late at night in the winter, and he was kind enough not only to prepare delicious meals at that time, but also to share stories about Iceland, with special focus on the Westfjords. I stayed for over 10 days in Iceland, and it was the most informative, deep and interesting conversation I had with a local about his country (we covered history, geography, politics, socioeconomics, among many others). There was also a gorgeous library and beautiful maps that showed detailed information not available in Google Maps. I will definitely go back to this place next time I am in the Westfjords.

Our best accomodation in Iceland! Full kitchen, calmness around, in the middle of the nature, BBQ on the property, parking in front of the house.
The road is a bit bumpy for 7 km, nothing serious even a normal car can do it.

This place is remote and amazing! The rooms are beautifully styled and very comfortable. We had a wooden deck with stunning view off the back. The food was extraordinary! I had fish and it was one of the best meals I had in Iceland. The owner is also the chef and she's full of amazing info and stories. Breakfast was also probably one of the best during our 10 day Ring Road adventure. The homemade waffles and lamb sausage were so good. We saw the Northern Lights here which was an added bonus!

The cottage is nice, clean, comfortable, well equipped (including washer), and the hot pool ready for us was a great bonus. It is in a bit remote location if somebody wants to do sightseeing, but it is a great place for a relaxing time. The hosts were very accommodating. They also opened the shop in the morning when we were leaving and we could have great ice cream, cheese.

Stayed here because there was reasonably priced accommodations mostly on route to where we were going. The town is small, doesn't appear to be too much to it. The people were nice, it felt safe, and was by the water.

To me, this was a perfect area to pass through when transiting between the mainland and the Snaefellsnes. The passage full of stories and beautiful farmlands. I just wish I had more days to spend here.
This was an excellent hotel as we ended our time in the West Fjords and headed “back”. The staff was wonderful and the “cottages” were clean and comfortable. We purchased the breakfast option and it was substantial. Great that they brought it to your room the night before since each cottage had a fridge, microwave, coffee maker, etc. Limited dining available in the town - but there is one good restaurant. We enjoyed our stay!
Loved the convenience of having a fully equipped kitchen, sitting area, separate bedroom and bathroom, and access to washer and dryer in the shared cabin. We booked a night here on a whim after a prior booked hotel wasn't what we expected, and are so glad we did. It was a relaxing last night on the road and it was great to catch up on laundry before returning to Reykjavík to head for home.
The staff was super friendly. The GPS put me in front of a house on another road. I called the hotel and they stayed with me on the phone, even came out to guide me around the block to make sure I was able to get to the hotel.
The on-site restaurant was nice and convenient. It is where they had breakfast with good selection of foods and one of the best chocolate croissant twists.
The owner and the staff, including her son and daughter, were very accommodating, friendly, and helpful. The meals we ate there were excellent. They went out of their way to make sure we were satisfied. They provided little extras for us that made us feel important and valued. The Gil Guesthouse is an excellent value for the price compared to other lodging in Iceland.
Great value and large 3 bedroom home. Loved some of the antiques int eh home and the "charm". Road to get to the house was "bumpy" and unpaved like many roads in Iceland but did add a little bit of time onto getting there and to Reykjavik. Owners with great communication and details to locate home. Accommodating for our late arrival as well.
Wonderful and comfortable cottage with good assortment of items for simple food prep. I had no need for food prep... the charming chef owner & his wife prepared a fabulous fish dinner for me and an Icelandic breakfast. Quiet and secluded in a beautiful valley setting with sheep & newborn lambs.
No pretentions very good value for money hotel in fabulous setting with incredible sunset.
Simple cuisine and good breakfast. Very friendly, informative and reactive staff (a problem with Wi-Fi was sorted immediately). A billiards table provided some relaxation.
We had a great room with our own sink. The restaurant offers a good choice of food and you even get a discount if you stay in the hotel.
Breakfast is awesome and the staff is very friendly.
The bathrooms are very modern and clean.
Collected keys from the reception next door. There are 4 or 5 cottages in their own secluded plot. There was an oven so we had bought food at Búðardalur and had a cosy night in.
Good sized bathroom for a cabin and comfy bed.
INCREDIBLE kitchen - best I've seen at a guesthouse/b&b - incredibly warm-welcome, great staff, very clean, fair prices, great menu. couldn't have picked a better first stop. Will absolutely return on my next visit to Iceland.
The property, though remote like many places in Iceland, was warm, comfy, and clean. We got in late and it was the perfect warm place to crash for the night. It was quiet and had all the necessities.
Very recent cabin, very clean, nice quite location. Easy early check-in and check-out. Quite convenient to continue our tour of Iceland toward the Snaefellsnes peninsula.
We had the check in at 1am, because of a storm, and the lady who hosted us was so comprehensive and kind. A very quiet place in one of the oldest houses in Buðardalur
Our first stop in Iceland was this Guesthouse. Located in a small town, near the waterfront. Room was great, we had also dinner here. Breakfast was also splendid.
A really gorgeous cosy place. Authentic and once a real home.
It was my favorite guesthouse in Iceland. It has lots of character and not like the new ones.
