Lovely little town for shortbreak, easy access to lots of sights in the area, Fjaðragljúfur, the beaches, Katla Geopark, even Jökullsarlón is within moderate travel distance for a daytrip if not planning to travel further than Vík for overnight.
It is a hard to fell in love with the place..., it is okay to have a short stop. Other than the curch for a picture the same black sand beach this is a stop for the turist to spend money at the stores and have a toilet break.
Vik is beautiful, modest and quaint. It is also centrally located in Iceland's South Coast, and close to mountains for snowmobiling (we were in February), the Black Sand Beach, at least 5 waterfalls, amazing hiking, and caves.
*these are not the droids you are looking for * *you do not want to travel to vik* But seriously, it’s fantastic. There’s not a whole lot to do here in the conventional sense if you’re not interested in the natural beauty of the land. It’s definitely a small town and not really oriented towards typical stuff like seeing a movie or things you can do literally anywhere else. It’sa great escape from your busy life, and can help you appreciate the beauty of the world. Definitely check out: Katlatrack ice cave tours Black sand beach riding tours The black sand beaches The lava show
Small village with nice views and black beach. Perfect as a stop on your way to the east. There is a lot to do around the area like visit the black beach, nice cliffs, see northern lights and visit the glacier that sits on a volcano, with its black ice caves, just a must!
A small town with an incredible setting. One of the world's most highly-rated beaches, with pristine black sand. Dramatic cliffs teeming with bird life. Iconic rock formations out to sea. The wild ocean smashing itself against the shore. Towering mountains behind. There's loads to do if you don't venture more than 15 minutes away from the centre of town, but Vik also makes a good base to explore mid-South Iceland. We have visited Vik a couple of times before, but I was as excited as ever to visit again, and I'm sure we'll be back.
