I really loved El Medano beacuse it wasnt overly run by tourism, it was homely. You could find local food shops that had that spanish authenticity to them, and prices were not that enflamed. I would siggest to go woith a great group of friends :D or as a couple. Its a great place to be. Wonderful scenery. You can see Mt.Teide fully from the beach.
The town is not remarkable but has many good restaurants, but not all. An excellent location for wind surfing fans but very windy if you just want to stay on the beach. Going anywhere else involves double bus journeys, unless you have a car.
Милейшая деревенька с прекрасными кафе и ресторанами. Пляж неплохой, но океан холодноват и постоянно ветренно.
It's a little bit windy, but it is perfect if you want to go surfing :-) i think it's the best place to be for that!:-) It's a small town with friendly people an a good home-base from where you can go and explore the island.
We liked our good sized room with balcony and extremely comfortable beds. Nice sitting area with TV and couch. Fridge in the room and corkscrew and bottle opener ! It was a 20 min walk into El Medano for bus and restaurants, a nice walk along by the beach. There was windsurfing on the beach and surf boards available for hire. Bus took us all over the island. We took a tour of the island on one day and booked same at reception desk.
El Médano is an active town as opposed to a purpose built resort. It's right by the sea, with a swimming & sunbathing beach in the town centre, and a larger, windier, kite-surfing windsurfing, and surfing beach nearby. We are into cycling, and Michael at BikePoint had bikes set up individually for us as we had booked in advance. He gave good advice on what routes to use, and roads to avoid. I would recommend Tenerife for cycling training, with plenty of climbing, as opposed to leisurely routes. Teide and it's high-altitude plateau are worth a trip by bike or by car. There are good restaurants. We didn't try them all, but Le Penon stood out, a Basque restaurant that cooks Txogitxu, 18 year old beef, as well as some inventive dishes like foie gras lasagne. You can have performance cooking of prawns and crepes by your table. We had good pintxos (tapas) at Imperio del Pintxo. There is a good farmers market, Mercadillo Del Agricultor el Médano 8am–2pm Sat & Sun. Superdino supermarket has a very good whole fish counter. It's a chance to cook fish you have never seen before - judge the cooking time by size, and check that it is flaking before you serve up. Local wines are interesting, the high altitude vineyards make for fruity, medium-bodied reds, and fruity light whites.
