3.6 miles from Bergerac Train Station in Bergerac, La Sabatière provides accommodations with access to an open-air bath. With pool views, this accommodation offers a swimming pool. The hosts were amazing. Very friendly and helpful. The property is located 2mins drive from the airport. Lots of space with a modern kitchen. The pool is large, and although hygienically clean, the bottom of the pool had quite a lot of fallen leaves and flowers in it. Didn’t stop us, but I can understand how this could be off putting for some. Would we stay again - yes, as a stop over to visit Bergerac

Located in the Dordogne department of France, Bergerac is a city of art and history, ideal for a short break. Built on the Dordogne River, the town's heritage and history are closely intertwined with the traditional flat-bottomed gabarre boats that ply the river. Wine and food lovers will also enjoy a Bergerac city break, as Bergerac is located in the Périgord Pourpre region (the word pourpre, meaning purple, comes from the autumn colour of the vine leaves), and boasts 12,600 hectares of vineyards and 12 wines with designations of origin. Famous wines, goat cheese, foie gras and Périgord truffles mean you're sure to find what you're looking for at the farmers' markets or wineries in Bergerac or the surrounding area.
We arrived at the airport , optimistically thinking there would be taxis waiting, however this was not the case.!! There is no bus service from the airport !! that is , the busses were to say the least a mystery. We were fortunate a taxi arrived , so we took it, the driver did'nt seem to know the hotel.! It was easy walking around , the restaurants were plentiful, although the menus were all in french.!!, which was predictable as we were in France. Bergerac is a lovely town ,quaint and historical, with plenty of good wine.
A smallish town where the main sights can be seen in a few days, so go for 3 nights unless you want to go on a wine tour full or half day (recommended) out or jump on the train to Sarlat or Bordeaux. If you want vegetarian food, it's difficult to find (in many of the traditional restaurants) . The local cuisine is duck, foie gras and some beef. There isn't a lot of public transport (buses) but everywhere is walkable. Chateau Monbazillac is worth a visit (20 mins taxi) The Pécharmant, wineries to the north west of the town are a good visit as is the wine shop in the tourist office near the river.
Bergerac is a beautiful place and full of life in the summer. The season hadn't quite started yet when we visited and it was fairly quiet but still a very lovely place to visit with plenty of bars and restaurants open. The Saturday flowers, fruit and veg market had some amazing produce. The river views are spectacular as is the whole of the Dordogne region and Bergerac is very relaxing. The rooftop bar on the waterfront, above the visitor information centre is well worth a visit and a glass or two of the local wines!
Bergerac is a lovely town to visit with lots of interesting things to see. Lots of good restaurants. The train station is a 10 minute walk from the centre and has a good service for visiting nearby places. Would definitely recommend for couples who like a relaxed, pretty and friendly environment.
