L'Atypic Hotel is conveniently located in the centre of Bergerac old town. The receptionist was friendly and welcoming and helpfully provided a hairdryer which had been requested on booking. The room was large and airy with two beautiful French windows looking out onto the street, and the bathroom facilities were excellent. We parked our car in the next square which was free overnight and following helpful advice from the receptionst, paid for an extra couple of hours parking the following morning. We paid for breakfast in the morning fruit, bread, croissants and coffee, which was fresh and convenient as we did not have time to explore other local cafes.

Hotel de France, Europ'Hotel Bergerac, and Hôtel Bar Brasserie L'ESCALE got great room view-related reviews from travelers in Bergerac.
A very nice town to stay for a couple of days, with plenty of interesting sights in a compact area and many nice places to eat in the old town. If planning to stay longer I'd recommend hiring a car to explore adjacent areas.
A very picturesque old town, with plenty of choice for food and drink, beautiful architecture and a friendly feel. We went for a few days peace and relaxation, and were more than happy with our visit. We were particularly impressed with the facilities and the staff at the Tourist Information office by the river. The platters and wine available there were excellent value for money and sitting on the terrace watching the world go by was delightful.
Bergerac is a small delightful medieval town which is really easy to get around on foot. In fact lots of streets are pedestrianised. It has a wide variety of restaurants, wonderful old buildings and lots of pretty squares. We particularly liked La Blanche Hermine (creperie) and Bistro D'en Face. The staff in the Tourist Office are really helpful and friendly. You can hire bikes from the Tourist Office and cycle the green route (91) along the river Dordogne. It's well signposted. There are also 50 minute boats trips with commentary along the river about once every hour. We found two well stocked mini supermarkets in the town. Plus, wonderful bakeries and artisan shops. We recommend L'Art et le Vin for a great choice of wines. There are two interesting museums Dordonha (free) information in both French and English and the rather quirky Tobacco Museum. The train station is about 15 minutes walk from the river up through the town. The train journey to Bordeaux takes about 1 hour 20 and the trip to Sarlat (medieval town and gourmet centre) in the other direction about an hour. You can also get off at Saint Emillion and Saint Cyprien depending on which direction you are travelling in. We found that train stations tend to be about 15-20 minutes walk from the centre of towns. Market days in Bergerac are Weds and Saturday mornings. There is lots of fresh produce for sale.
Bergerac is a beautiful town, everything is walkable and there are lots of lovely places to eat drink and shop. If you're staying in Bergerac for more than a couple of days than I highly recommend hiring a car to see some of the local towns and villages.
We did not hire a car as we only stayed 4 nights as per Ryanair schedule. 4 nights was about right as we travelled to the highly recommended town of Sarlat via the train from Bergerac for one day. The River barge trip is worth the money with the operator speaking in both French & English. Apart from lots of walking around the old town and enjoying the bars and restaurants its a very laid back town.
A great place to spend a few days 2-3 should be just right, take a boat trip on the river Dordogne , catch a motorised train around the town both take about one hour each. Nice bars and restaurants nothing too expensive and the quality is very good.
