The 4-star Victoria Lodge Motor Inn & Apartments is just 5 minutes’ walk from the beach and 2 minutes' walk from Portland District Hospital. We were only staying one night but would have been plenty to see and do if staying longer. The one bedroom apartment was spotlessly clean and had everything you could need for a longer stay. Bed was very comfortable. We would definitely stay again.
We were looking for an short road trip (one night stay) and stumbled on Portland. It suited me as an EV driver to have several Tesla superchargers along the way. The drive was pleasant going through Geelong, Colac and Warrnambool (each having chargers) from Melbourne. Even having limited time there we managed to ride the tram car ($18 ea. for adult), see 2 lighthouses, visit the carnival briefly, have great fish and chips in the main strip along the waterfront and even a decent coffee. We made the mistake of first walking along the main 'shopping' strip for lunch; don't, just stay along the coastal road and there's plenty to choose from. Pack a jacket as it was chilly in the evening even in late December. All up a very nice place to visit for 1-2 days.
Easy access to wonderful walking trails. Food readily accessible in various forms. We like the Lido on Julia Street. If it is raining the library is quiet and comfortable with a great outlook over the working port. Overall a lovely feel of country Victoria - solid comfort no frills.
The small amount that we were able to see in the time was great, but we would love to come back for a longer stay and enjoy the area. There seems that there is plenty to see and do. The ships and ocean views hold a particular interest
Plenty to see as a tourist. Nice drives to Cape Nelson and Cape Bridgewater for some magnificent natural beauty. Port lovely especially at night. Fantastic pizza shop overlooking the port and plenty of places to drop a line of fishing is your thing. Hotel restaurant full on Monday evening. Obviously popular with the locals. Good meal which would have been better if we hadn’t had to wait for over an hour after ordering to be served. Excuse made And Apology offered, but we were clearly overlooked.
Travel information was a bit vague, but we really enjoyed our trip to the Bridgewater area to see the blowholes, petrified forest and seal colony. On our way out from Portland we enjoyed several walks in the Mount Richmond National Park. We would have liked to have seen more but had to be back in Adelaide the next day.

Room very spacious compared to other motels we have stayed at. The bathroom is also spacious with good counter space & lots of hooks and rails to hang wet towels & clothes. The room was very clean & bed very comfortable. Good lighting too. Would definitely stay again
The hosts were both very lovely. The building was a little old but extremely clean and comfortable. We stayed whilst attending a wedding in portland, good value for money and would not hesitate to stay here again.
Highly recommended. Spacious, clean, modern room and bathroom. Quiet. Helpful owner. Great tip for dinner at the nearby Royal Hotel. Also highly recommended. Very reasonable price. Overall a very enjoyable stay.
We loved the old Victorian house and the very welcoming Doug. Breakfast was fantastic and there was everything available we could need. Little extras like the port and fruit cake left out in the evening.
everything. nothing to dislike. staff were friendly. cabins were beautifully kept. everything you needed was in the cabin and with my stay it was low season so very few tourists in the park.
We had a fantastic stay at the annex cottage. It was very comfortable and nicely refurbished. Perfect for a couple. We enjoyed walking around the lighthouse and surrounding area.
Sensational accommodation - very comfortable and homely. Impeccable and friendly service from the host, and very thoughtful amenities (breakfast, etc). Thank you!!
