I was in TerrAmor with my partner at the end of October. The hotel is located in the forest, about five minutes drive to the village of Alter do Chao. It has a main communal lounge area which is completely open and with beautiful views of the lake and surrounding forest. From the lounge area, there are wooden paths that lead to a number of wood cabins. Our cabin was simple and rustic but clean, spacious and comfy. It had a double bed on the ground floor and a single bed on the upper level. It had a ceiling fan but we rarely used it as it was cool inside. The bathroom was also simple with a very good shower with room temperature water. In the bathroom there was a window that opened from floor to ceiling. It allowed us to look out at the nature while in there. There was also a small patio in our cabin where we could spend some quiet time contemplating the surrounding nature. There were no flies or mosquitoes, but during the night there were large spiders around, as well as smaller insects like ants, grasshoppers and cockroaches. There were also smaller reptiles like frogs and geckos. The cabin where my partner and I stayed was quite open so there was no real physical barrier that could prevent small animals from getting inside during the night. The breakfast was served in the lounge area. It was varied and plentiful, and consisted of regional fresh fruits, coffee, fresh fruit juices, scrambled eggs, cheese, butter, jam, bread, etc. We really loved it, especially the tapioquinha prepared for us every morning. On the hotel grounds there was a trail that took us through a short hike to the hotel observatory on the top of the hill. It had amazing views of the lake and forest. There was another trail to the beach but we didn't have time to do that one. The owner (Indios) made us feel welcome and was very attentive. He was able to communicate with us in both English and Portuguese. We highly recommend for a true experience of the Amazon forest.

It's a really nice place, not much to do during the night but you will always find a.couple of bars to have a beer! The beaches are really nice and if you feel to spend some more money you can explore the area with the boat which is great ;)
A beautiful place. Calm and very safe area with a lively, small, plaza. The beach is great. Excellent launchpad for a visit into the Tapajos reserve - a more authentic Amazon experience than those available from Manaus for the same budget.
I have my share of travelling and I believe Alter do Chão is one of the most impressed place I have ever been. It's a true Amazon forest experience with the large river, fresh food, dolphins and unique nature. It's a small town and people are welcoming. If you go to the main square at night you will see towners with kids spending time together. There are also some restaurants and bars, prices are good. What I loved about Alter were the boat sightseeing - many places to visit, Ilha do Amor is impressive and my toddler could play safe in fresh, clean and calm water, seeing dolphins made my day and a cannon ride inside the forest was unforgettable - only available in winter season when the river is full. I've been recommending Alter for everybody I know, specially ones with kids. Only note I would add is town can be challenge for people who can't walk much.
This place has an incredible view of nature and is one of the few places where I can relax deeply. Great for someone who loves the water, animals, birds and lots of warm people. My favorite activity is swimming and I would recommend going to the Barraca de Mariana at the Riverside beach. You can order your food and a little ahead of time so it'll be just right after you come out of the water. Travel around this area is usually by foot but you can easily grab the bus if you want and you can Arrange for a car.
Great place to see the Amazon in a small relaxed cosy town. The town is close to some stunning river beaches which I would argue are the best beaches in Brazil. It is a great place to see the Amazon wildlife, primary rainforest and the size of some of the Amazon's mighty rivers. Finally the food in the town is fantastic and if your lucky you can watch and listen to the locals play samba at one of the bars in town. I recommend it as a must stop whilst in Brazil.
This is the ideal place for travellers and visitors who want an authentic holiday. After the hustle and bustle of Brazilian cities we were amazed how quiet and restful it was. Sheltered by trees with monkeys who come to visit in the mornings, all ages will enjoy it here. Everything was perfect for us, especially the hospitality and helpfulness of the owners. Breaksfasts were delicious: fresh fruits, breads, cakes and eggs. And there's so much to visit if you are interested in the Amazon and the indigenous people. Paulos Eco Tours are a must. They represent fantastic value for money. We had an amazing day, Paulo took us out in his boat to see the flooded forests. We met a local family, went fishing for piranhas (that our hosts later made into a soup for us!) and we went jungle trekking. I don't always review places I stay, but it's good to pass on positive experiences. We enjoyed it so much here that we extended our stay by 3 days. It really is a gem not to be missed.
