Botwood has 13 excellent murals on building such as the library, pharmacy and post office. There may not be as many as in Chemainus (BC) or Sheffield (Tasmania), but they are every bit as artistic. Well worth a visit along with the small heritage centre.
Surprised to see this quaint town covered in historical murals. They are massive! One commemorates Dr Twome and the regional hospital, THE PULSE OF THE COMMUNITY. Another shows the sawmill & timber industry. Another 2 Newfoundland dogs pulling a sled in from of an early BOAC plane. Another the clash between the Beothuk & Europeans.
This is not a Town for everyone, but I loved the people and got to learn what to see from the locals. Everyone was friendly but I also had to reach out and got a great response in return. Any more than 3 nights would be too much in this location. But, I used it as a stop for a western destination and got to meet wonderful people.
