    We did the Agawa Canyon train tour enjoyed it very much.

    We did the Agawa Canyon train tour enjoyed it very much. The Miss Marie Soo lock tour is not to be missed, it is truly worth it. We also drove around to Harmony Beach, Batchawana Bay and Ojibway Park and Trail. We also drove to Manitoulin Island by car.

    I have been travelling the the Sault for years and not much...

    I have been travelling the the Sault for years and not much has changed. The town folks are friendly but very cautious. The streets are in need of repair much like other places but may be a bit worse.

    Sault St.

    Sault St. Marie is factory city and a location for access to the USA. There is not much to do there in the winter time as most of the visitor locations are closed for the season. Be ready for lots of snow at the city is on the south end of Lake Superior and the top of Lake Huron, so there is lots of bad weather in the winter.

    Entering the city from the international bridge, the view...

    Entering the city from the international bridge, the view reveals more evidence of old industry and shipping rather than a tourist destination. We could not determine where the city centre existed and we could not find a specific area dedicated to nightlife except for the casino. We found good restaurants throughout the city though and felt like we struck gold with the South Asian cusine at Tandori Gardan on Queen Street. The neighborhoods, whether old or modern, lacked charm but were safe and adequately maintained. Above all, we found the snow we were looking for near the Soo and that made our New Year's vacation enjoyable. They have great cross-country ski options.

    Simple basic map of town would have been nice - too small on phone... Front desk clerk on arrival - long day? We were late arrivals and cold reception Hot protein for cont bkfst would have been nice... Booking and/or Super 8 killed any discount of high Canadian charges... both blamed the other for not being able to use AARP or AAA... 2nd day clerk better, bkfst good except for no hot eggs We did Agawa train so little time for anything else in two days...

    There was a large number of eateries on Great Northern Road...

    There was a large number of eateries on Great Northern Road just south of the camp ground. Driving about was chaotic - some streets very poorly laid out. Even our GPS units were confused. We came to SSM late afternoon Monday to ride the train to the Agawa Gorge all day Tuesday and then return 700 km home on Wednesday.

    Although old style motel, room was very clean and provided everything we needed for 2 night stay. When we decided to go SSM for two days found that a lot of hotels/motels had gone up in price sometimes almost double. A lot of reasonable motels were booked already and others had very poor reviews. When we discovered this one we decided to book and were happy with the choice
