We had such a wonderful stay! The staff were friendly and helpful, and our room was spotless and well-organised. We loved the coffee machine, the fan, and the radio, not to mention the fantastic shower. They even welcomed us with complimentary drinks! We wouldn't think twice about staying here again. The location is perfect—just a quick 10-minute walk from bus 50 from the airport, or you can take bus 30 from the station, which is really close to the bus stop. Plus, there's a lovely garden where you can relax after a day of exploring. I highly recommend buying a dry bag to join the locals swimming along the Rhine and soaking up the summer sun. It's such a fun way to enjoy the area!

Excellent bar and cocktails. Bartender very knowledgeable and recommended local liquors. Enjoyed exquisite martini and gin tonic. We were early for check in and the staff took great care with the luggage storage and all was waiting for us in the room after returning from the Christmas markets.

FAQs about hotels in Basel

Switzerland Through the Ages

At the meeting point of Switzerland, Germany and France, Basel is an eclectic mix of historic and modern, tranquil and vibrant, with Swiss cleanliness and efficiency thrown in for good measure.

Augusta Raurica, on the outskirts, has a well-preserved Roman theater, while the Old Town is a museum of medieval buildings. The Renaissance Town Hall looks down on Marktplatz’s daily market, while the red sandstone and colorful tiles of the Münster were reconstructed in the 19th century. Bringing it right up to date are the modern creations of city residents Herzog & De Meuron, designers of London’s Tate Modern.

When you’ve finished exploring this architectural heritage, there are still plenty of things to do in Basel. The city’s fine art museum is the world’s oldest art collection, and the zoo is the oldest and largest in Switzerland. Remember to bring plenty of Swiss francs for the shopping mile along Clarastrasse and Freiestrasse.

The Basel accommodations on Booking.com range from hotels in Grossbasel to B&Bs in Kleinbasel, home to the nightlife. If you’re flying into Basel-Mulhouse-Freiburg Airport in February or March, you might just catch Fasnacht, Switzerland’s biggest carnival. You’ll have to get up early to catch the 4 am start, though!

We stayed in Basel for a week, using it as a transit point for traveling to other cities in the area: Colmar, Luzerne, and Freiburg. Basel itself has easily enough to see for three full days: interesting museums, beautiful architecture, cathedrals, dining, etc. If you stay for more than a day you get a Basil Pass which allows you to use public transit for free. The public transit works like a clock, although it might be a bit difficult at first to figure out what goes where.

Basel has a mix of old buildings, many museums (~40), lots of interesting streets and alleyways as well as a full range of good quality shops and restaurants. Very enjoyable to walk along the tree lined paths along the Rhine too, where you can find numerous drink stalls and openings to restaurants. Eating out is not cheap, but quality if usually good.

We were there for the Women's Euros and it was amazing to see how the city embraced the tournament! We visited the beautiful Basel Town Hall, the Kunst Museum Basel (definitely recommend), the Natural History Museum, and St-Jakob Park. We took a day trip to Lucerne as well, which was great.

The old city has plenty to see and do and with the visitor’s tram pass you can also take a ride out into the countryside. I found some great places to eat- tit-bits by the back of the railway station is good value and a choice of GF options. A wealth of museums made the whole stay a pleasure, Art Basel an Annual event and Beyeler in Riehen, and Kunstmuseum by Wettsteinbruecke both worth a mention.

This hotel is good. For Switzerland they practice fair prices. I had a comfortable room and was treated nicely by the staff. Public transportation is in front of the hotel. Basel has also some very good offers included with the tourist tax which made my visit to Basel much more attractive.
