Founded by the Romans in 38 BC and idyllically located on the Rhine River, Cologne offers the perfect blend of historical and modern Germany. There’s no place more picturesque to drink a Kölsch beer and eat a schnitzel than on the banks of the River Rhine.
Here you’ll find the Altstad, or Old Town, with the impressive Cologne Dom on the skyline.
Visitors to Cologne in February can dance the days away at the Carnival Parade. In December, no trip to Cologne’s magical Christmas markets is complete without a steaming mug of Glühwein.
The charm extends to other seasons as well, thanks to the medieval wonders of the Cologne Cathedral and the Twelve Romanesque churches. Learn about the city’s history at the Roman-Germanic Museum or take a postmodern approach at Museum Ludwig. Whether historic or culinary, a trip to the Chocolate Museum can complete any tour.

The Christmas Markets were excellent and the city is easy to explore on foot, as most attractions are close to the centre. I would say a couple of days are enough to see most of the city sights and there is not much left of the original older houses and buildings after the pounding Cologne got in WW2 sadly. One Cologne hack for the weekends, eat early for lunch and dinner, as otherwise you might struggle to find a restaurant with a table free! Make time to go up the tower at Cologne Triangle. Not expensive and a great 360 observation deck at the top. You can reach it by walking across the railway bridge (the one with the love locks). Rhine cruises are also fun! Enjoy!

Cologne was beautiful, the cathedral was absolutely stunning and worth the visit. Plenty of shops, restaurants and a huge Christmas market which was beautiful, got a proper feel for Christmas whilst I was there and plenty of authentic foods to try and gifts to buy. There was a shopping centre directly opposite the cathedral not sure if it was a train station also. Overall a very beautiful place would recommend to anyone

A beautiful city, the friendliest people who make you feel like one of them! An amazing warm culture, I couldn’t recommend it more. The Christmas markets were breathtaking. If you are going to visit the markets, just know that on the weekend it gets claustrophobically busy, so I definitely recommend to at least go one day midweek where it is not so busy!
The cathedral is breathtaking. The chocolate museum was a fantastic experience too, very worth it.
Overall, we had a wonderful time in this beautiful city.

Went for the Christmas markets and they did not disappoint.
Went for the Christmas markets and they did not disappoint. A must do if you're travelling at that time of year. There is also so much to see and do if you go at other times, the hop on/off bus takes you around the city with a voice guild at every location.
Many restaurants and bars to choose from, from traditional food to street or just a good old burger it's all available.

It's a great hotel in very nice of area. I didn't know this part of Cologne before (Ehrenfeld / University Area) and I was pleasantly surprised. Way cosier than the city center, with fantastic restaurants, bar & boutiques in walking distance. The hotel was easy to reach from the station and the staff is friendly and professional. Bonus point for the cleanliness: the room was impeccably clean. The rooms are spacious and the bed is very comfortable.
The rooms are so small you can just about move in the room. They switch off Aircon in the entire hotel in winter to save energy and only keep heating on. It was 15 degrees in cologne when were there and they said this is winter in Germany. When asked can we change the hotel as we are feeling hot in the room. They said it is upfront payment and they will not give us refund. Never stay there again.
Room was great, especially bathroom. Location is good, you can walk to the city center by foot in 15 mins. Very good furnitures as well. The facilities didn't interest me but there were variety of options. If you want to hang out in the city and stay in a good, secure and clean room at the end of the day, I think this hotel is one of the best option that you can get in Cologne.
The location of the hotel was perfect, with the river, city centre and cathedral all within a short walk. One of the rooms had a view over the river. If you're looking for somewhere affordable to stay in Cologne then this is definitely worth a look.
