We spent two nights here whilst visiting Phantasialand and found the accommodation to be perfect for our needs. It was very clean and comfortable and there were so many thoughtful touches, things like coffee and tea and cooking oil (I hate having to buy a huge bottle of cooking oil for one or two meals whilst travelling), also maps of the local area showing where the supermarkets etc were and fast food delivery leaflets. We'd just come from a campsite so the washing machine and drying lines were most welcome. The communication was great and the host popped by to say hi on the second day and was v friendly and knowledgeable about the area (plus spoke perfect English). V easy to get onto the motorway and the drive to Phantasialand took around 20 minutes.

First of all the city is well placed for DB stations and can...

First of all the city is well placed for DB stations and can get to Koln in 20 minutes or so. For food, there is a good place to eat near the Frechen BF with great steaks and beer. The city si very quiet and very close to Phantasialand ~20m, 1h to Toverland and 1.5h to Efteling. You can find anything you want and need, Aldi, Lidl etc. and also a small shopping mall for the ladies. Also it is very well suited for park walks or trailing if you feel the need to losen up a little.

Unfortunately, there are only two restaurants: the Schützenhof in the hotel (very good) and the Brauhaus (which serves many pre-prepared dishes). Otherwise, there are only snack bars offering various nationalities. Other restaurants are only accessible by S-Bahn (suburban train) or car.

I had a lovely walk, a wonderful breakfast at a bakery, and...

I had a lovely walk, a wonderful breakfast at a bakery, and a delicious meal and drinks at a brauerei. I chatted with locals and got lots of tips for exploring Frechen and Cologne. Public transport is easy. Aachenerstrasse is a very long street that leads to Cologne's city center.

A few typical "Cologne" pubs and restaurants, a main street with many retail shops and very good transport connections (bus/train) to Cologne city center or the surrounding area (Wesseling, Brühl, etc.). Otherwise, the city center is rather "dreary" and there isn't much going on in Frechen.

We thought it would be easy to reach Cologne by public transport. On the map, it was about a few hundred meters to the stop, but in practice (inaccessible due to private property) it was several kilometers away and almost impossible without a car.

A small, rather uninteresting place, but one that suited our purposes well. It takes 30 minutes to get to the RheinEnergieStadion by public transport. It would have taken us just as long from Cologne Central Station.

My family and I spent 3 days at this apartment; when we first arrived, we were impressed with how clean and modern it was. There is a patio, which is also quite beautiful—my daughter was impressed and did not want to leave. If I'm ever in Germany again, I will stay here again.

An easily accessible hotel from the motorway offering excellent value for money. We were passing through and stayed for one night, but would have been happy to stay longer. The room was exactly what we expected and the staff were very friendly and helpful.
