Nice room, fairly friendly staff, good restaurant on site and, hallelujah, a hotel that has AC. It’s a rare find in Germany unless you’re at a major chain. Outstanding breakfast for €15. This time I was traveling by bike and they had a bicycle workshop area for guests… A+++

I had arrived 2 hrs earlier than checkin time (on bicycle) and the person at reception said no problem, we have your room ready. He then took me down into the garage where the hotel had a special gated room just for bicycles. The breakfast was just incredible, the best breakfast I have experienced in any hotel in Europe, on par with the Hilton in Dubrovnik where I bike toured to last Fall. The breakfast at the Asam even had French champagne on the buffet. It was incredulous how great this breakfast buffet was...had everything The hotel was a nice 10-15 min walk to Old Town in Straubing and the Asam reception gave me a nice map to follow. I highly recommend this hotel.

The hotel staff kept in contact with me while I was in transit when I had travel delays and assured me that I would be able to check in when I arrived. The location was right on the main plaza which was right next to shops and a variety of places to eat and shops/places to go. The hotel is only about 12 min walk to the train which is also great. I actually didn't eat at the restaurant as I came to Straubing to meet with friends and they wanted to eat other places . . .but there were people eating at the restaurant all day, everyday which is always a good sign.

Straubing is a handsome little place, quite lovely in fact. The main thoroughfare is wide and attractive with lots of shops, all very well kept. There was a market just packing up when I arrived in early afternoon. There is a beautiful Albrecht Dürer window in the church, which is well worth visiting. The Main Street, Theresienplatz, has several street Cafés or restaurants. Hotel Gaubodenhof had a large out-door eating area on Theresienplatz.

I booked apartment with terace,got tiny rat hole upstairs with tiny windows,was +32 c....drunk noisy people around ...knocked at my door at night...plates and cups were dirty...bed was full of ketchup...and no receptionist....no one is to talk... Horible, nasty ,dirty place....
