Odense is a nice Danish town with beautiful historic buildings and several pedestrian streets with nice shops, cafes and restaurants. Unfortunately a large construction site runs right through the middle of the historic district, where they are removing the poorly planned highway that bisected the town. It should be wonderful when that job is completed. We were there for Jam Days, an excellent blues festival that I highly recommend. Also, the Goma restaurant is one of the best in Denmark.
The Hans Christian Anderson museum was very well done and admission includes his birth and family homes and 2 other sites nearby. A hidden gem and unique place was Papas Papbar on Sankt Knuds Kirkestræde 2, 5000 Odense, Denmark. The beer was good, reasonably priced, staff is friendly, decor is fun and atmosphere is great. They have probably a hundred board or card games for you to play. They'll even teach you how to play it. Great concept! A large shopping area is car free making it very comfortably walkable. The only downside is there is a fair amount of construction going on.
The city has had his share in history and provides a museum with Hans Christian Andersen. Old and new town areas blend in well. Great parks to walk around, all the shops are there plus some nice bars. Compared to Holland going out is expensive. € 20+ for two pints and a small bowl of nuts is a lot but hey, we're in a holiday ...
Odense is much smaller than Copenhagen and it is not far from CPH. Therefore, many tourists who visit Odense seem to take a day trip from CPH. However, Odense has its own charm. You will find it more if you stay there longer - I would say stay, at least, one night. It is always nice to walk on gågade (walking street) in the afternoon to look for a cafe/lunch place. There are many of them. In the evening, you may stroll around the Sortebrødre Torv area just behind H.C. Andersens Hus. That would make you think that you are timeslipped into the old days. There is a nice traditional Danish restaurant, Restaurant Grønttorvet, there. Try to taste Stegt flæsk - I liked it very much. And do not forget to join Vægtergang (night watchman's round) if you are visiting Odense in July/August. It will be a wonderful experience.
We visited Odense to see a concert at the Posten Music Hall. We were pleased that there was enough to fill a couple of days of sight seeing around that. A river cruise to the zoo was lovely as was a walk through the main city park and along the trails. There were several museum options - we only had time for one, The Montergarden, but it was really good with plenty of explanations in English. The main pedestrian area has a lot of bars and restaurants, but it's not terribly charming - just standard modern stores. There seems to be a lot happening in town - during our stay of 2 days, there was a major bicycle race, a German Oktoberfest event, an NBA exhibition event, as well as the concert we were there to see and other live music options.
Visit Odense Zoo - it is a beautiful place, you can easily spend a whole day there. Bring your own picnic and enjoy the beautiful surroundings near the forest and the river. Also, the environment for the animals is fantastic.

Although compact, the room was well organized with enough space to do the basic things needed when traveling. The place was quite empty or at least it seemed that way. Hence, it was very quiet in terms of inside noise. However, vibrations and noise from the train station could be perceived. Staff was really nice, giving me an umbrella when I lost mine. Location at the corner of the train station gives easy access to other cities without walking more than 50 m. Old town Odense and its restaurant area is 10 minutes walking or so.

Although the host was in full renovation and busy expanding the place, it was very neat and cosy. He also had two lovely, playful cats, which were a joy to me and my wife. The host furthermore had some nice tips and recommendations and has a lot of plans for the future of his B&B. We'll be sure to visit again sometime! Also, the way to the city centre was either through a quiet, good-looking part of the city or through a nice and serene park, so it wasn't a problem for us.

Our room was so clean and comfortable. But the best part of our stay were the people behind the desk – Christine and Gina. They went out of their way to be so helpful to us. The food at the restaurant was very good, but we were very surprised when it was not open on Friday. Christine helped us by calling a pizza place to have them deliver our dinner to us. Gina actually helped us carry our suitcases up the stairs. They are both a real credit to the hotel.

The staff went out of their way to make sure our honeymoon was very memorable. The location is just a short walk from the train station and a short walk from the shops and restaurants. I highly recommend this quaint hotel just like the city of Odense.
