Many families visiting Girona loved staying at Hotel Museu Llegendes de Girona, Hotel Nord 1901 Superior, and Hotel Gran Ultonia.
Very pleasant old town with lots of architecture (assorted huge churches, etc., well-preserved walls). Historical museuem and Jewish museum were both good (and cheap!) Loads of restaurants of all budgets; the cheaper ones were so-so rather than good.
I visited all the museums in Girona and my favourite had to be the Jewish Museum. It was well organized despite Covid-19 restrictions and had so much to see and listen to. Its location in the Jewish quarters was very awe-inspiring and there was a straight pathway leading to the famous Cathedral. There are many delicious ice parlors to cool you down during the hot day and many gardens where you can rest and enjoy the beautiful architecture. As a solo traveller (without a tour guide), I simply planned my route through the old town the night before on Google maps highlighting the important museums, bridges and tourist sites and it worked out excellently. Combined a total of 8 hours was spent exploring the old town. Full day's activity! I recommend bringing good walking shoes as there are many steps, climbs, etc. English is not so commonly understood or spoken in many places and in taxis as compared to in Barcelona so expect to mime a lot of things.
The "old town" is atmospheric with lots of history. I love the museum , the cathedrals and the bookshops. I enjoy eating in el Bistrot and The Meat Garden. Lots of other good restaurants. The "old town " is very compact . If staying outside of it the bus service is good. Train or bus can take you up the coast - even into France. Also Barcelona about an hour away. The prices vary on the train depending on time and speed to Barcelona so check this out. Truthfully there is nothing I would avoid.
Girona is a great town to use as a base to visit the Catalan region (I'd say better than Barcelona) It has everything, the town is compact enough for all attractions to be at walking destination. The region has walks and cycle trips and plenty of daytrips possible to lovely beaches of the Aqua Brava coast. If you use public transport you need to allow time and inform yourself well about the services. Special point of interest is the small town of Portbou from where you can walk to France over an old mountain path that was used during WWII and during the Spanish Civil wars. There are 3 Dali museums in the region and a ceramics museum. There are places of medieval and roman interest . Try it, you won't regret it. Maybe it is due to the crisis and people having a hard time but my only point of attention is; check your bill because I was short-changed about half of the time and also observed the same thing happening to other people.
One of my new favorite towns in Europe. Unexpectedly beautiful, from the city (architecture, old town streets, ruins, city parks and gardens, etc.) the to surrounding natural areas (which are so easily accessible even without a car). Plenty of cafes and restaurants and a few interesting museums. Lively and less touristy than nearby Barcelona. Just awesome.
My main reason for visiting Girona was to experience the Old Wall, as I arrived on a Sunday everything was closed (including the hotel restuarant) in the proximity to my hotel. I chose to walk the wall jus before sunset, then return the following morning, which was an advtaage as I discovered different stairs and streets that I would not have walked during the evening.

Second time we visited within a year time. The location is great: 15 min walk to town, 30 min ride to lake banyoles, 45 min drive to any of the costa brava beaches. The B&B is located in the hills just outside of town with stunning (sunset) views and a nice poolside chill area with comfy jacuzzi. Carmen again did everything to put us at ease with great organic breakfasts in the morning at lots of complimentaries. We will be back.
A charming hotel full of traditions and genuine hospitality. Our room with the balcony was spacious, clean, had comfortable mattresses, and a beautiful view of the cathedral. Javier at the front desk was extremely nice and helpful. Every little personal issue we had (needed to leave luggage for a few nights, store bicycles, etc.) were handled by Javier professionally and with ease. We will be back!
The hotel is located in the center of Girona and you can easily walk to all the places. The room was very clean and the bathroom was big enough and clean too. The staff was very friendly and willing to help us with everything we needed. The price of the room for one night was reasonable. I totally recommend Hotel Europa to all people who would like to visit Girona!
