Haro is the delightful centre of the Rioja wine region. Lovely city with fantastic Vineyards to visit just a few minutes drive away. Would NOT recommend Hotel ETH Rioja as a place to stay. Book a Hotel in the Town Centre.
Hotel initially difficult to find, in spite of plenty of hotel direction notices in the town. However it was on the N124 road which was convenient to get to Vitoria or Logrono, also the charming villages of the district with all the numerous Bodegas for wine tasting. The old part of Haro is attractive, with a number of bars for a glass of Rioja and some Tapas. The local Supermarket "Simply" was very well stocked with Rioja wine in a good range of prices, and at its self service fuel station we filled up with Diesel at under a Euro per litre. The hotel is about 15 minutes walk from the old town, but you can drive and there is plenty of parking. We are in our 70s and found everything we required for a very pleasant stay.
Nice town although has been impacted by the recession with quite a few empty shops etc. Excellent place for wine tasting as all bodega are together near the station. Lovely park areas and lots of sculptures everywhere. Very pleasant place to stay for a few days.
A lovely smart Rioja town. Some fine old buildings cathedral and square. Good variety of cafes bars and restaurants around. The sister hotel ARROPE has a lovely garden for drinks and tapas across from the hotel Los Agostinos. There are a ton of wine outlets to go to at the bottom of town and also off licences You can do mini wine tours and courses in Haro too Haro is very near the motorway AP68 so if travelling you are soon on your way it’s great for a stop over to and from the ferry ports to the UK
Haro is the most convenient place if you a Rioja wine lover as we are. All the big bodegas are in close proximity of each other and even smaller ones are not too far away. The amenities here are also excellent, with many really nice restaurants and bars.
Haro is a nice town and a great place to base yourself in La Rioja. Getting around though is not easy without a car. Best to rent a car so you can make the most of your time there. I was reluctant to do so due to driving on the opposite side of the road to what I am used to. However the roads are lightly trafficked and distances short. Note though that you need to go to Logrono to pick up a rental car. Book ahead to get an automatic vehicle. While in Haro itself you can walk to wineries. Many require advance bookings so do your homework before you go.
We loved the experience of sleeping in a convent. The rooms were very spacious and confortable. The staff very friendly and the breakfast was great!
