Hervas is one of a small number of historic locations in the Extramadura region in the vicinity of Beja and has a rich heritage. Looks like a good area for walking the mountains and the local route maps are excellently produced.
We are hikers, so Hervás is perfectly located to access a number of different trails. You can be in its charming old quarter and then onto trails within just a few minutes. The location is stunning. We hiked to La Chorrera. An amazing hike. The river in Hervás along the Jewish quarter is beautiful. The small train station visitor's center with the history of trains in Extremadura was fascinating. Great spot. Just outside of Hervás are lots of other great places to visit: Gredos, Plasencia, roman bridges and aqueducts, etc.
Gorgeous town with tonnes of bars. Every street seemed to have a few eateries and places to drink. All the staff we ran in to were friendly and kind. La Taperia convento was great fun, run by a father and two brothers with some lovely local beers. Also recommend taberna la andalusa which had the best olives i've ever eaten, though it is small and often packed full (I love the atmosphere, you might want more space). You should check out granadilla one day, an old abandoned town which is lovely and you can walk round the walls.
Hervas was amazing- such a beautiful tree lined town, with amazing bars & cafes throughout. Most of the houses had flowering plants outside & you got the impression that the friendly residents were proud of their town. The hundreds of years old Jewish quarter, with the cobbled, windy streets & medieval houses were awesome, plenty of unusual craft & gift shops to view without loosing the utter charm & beauty of place. On my top 10 list of places to see & stay in Spain
