Set on 5 acres of tropical gardens featuring orchids, The Fiji Orchid offers a restaurant and swimming pool. It features massage facilities and a sun terrace. Very accommodating staff , entertaining both lunch and breakfast outside restaurant hours. Friendly and genuine interactions which we always appreciate :) The Bures are set in a beautiful 5 acre block , a jungle oasis! The view from the shower was so very soothing as it looked over the surrounding foliage .The finishes were tasteful. Would 100% recommend to anyone.

At first the imposing security around buildings can be oppressive, even alarming. But eventually you relax into it, and accept that a building caged up for a armed assualt is actually quite a nice shop or restaurant. People are generally lovely, with an expected level of street begging, particularly aimed at papalangi.(white tourist). But the market is interesting and the local buses plentiful and cheap way to travel around and see a real Fiji.
On 20 December 2021, we checked in after one night of stay my wife noticed a baby lizards inside the kettle and there was a big hole next to air condition unit, where we saw lots of lizards come from, I reported the matter to front desk Indian staff and she start putting blame on us, Oh you guys must have open the main screen door for lizards to come in, I told her nicely why would we open main doors when there is 80-90 degrees F outside, we were very disappointed after having all prove and the Indian staff keep blaming us I even took pictures of the hole and showed her still no.
Not a tourist town, but a town where locals live great to observe the local lifestyle but don’t expect beauty and great sights, it’s just a Dijon town with all the good and ugly a city brings. Walkable if you stay in the centre.
We had 5 nights there, 4 would have been better. It is a good base for day trips both to the coast and inland. We don't like resorts that much so it was easy to go into town. There are not a lot of restaurant options and no real book shops either but the locals are very friendly. Standard taxi fare from Nadi Airport is FJD40.
Lautoka town itself was good to visit. We wandered through their farmers fruit & veg market which was very large and very clean. It was easy enough for us to navigate our own way around the town. We were only there for dinner so didnt see too much. A local suggested we eat at “Tigers” restaurant so we did. A little disappointed to find they didn’t serve local fare and instead it was pizza and Chinese takeout. However, we spent FJD$17 for 3 of us, for dinner! Our 5 year old had two slices of pizza which were quite tasty and my hubby and I had fried rice and vegetable chop suey. The portions were huge!! We could’ve had HALF of one of the servings between both of us! 😂 definitely got our money’s worth!
You probably need a whole day to explore Lautoka city is wonderful :) Don’t forget Garden of the sleeping Giants it’s beautiful! Chilli Tree cafe in town is a lovely clean cafe with aircon and good food! Tappoos mall is good to walk around and escape the heat a while :) Great market with an excellent little craft section!
Lautoka
we liked the fact it was really quiet and secluded, but you need a rental car if staying here for sure. the taxi driver the hotel arranged was great and will also take you many places, but ideally if you want to leave the accommodation, get a car. the big boss and staff were super great! always willing to help and offer more. the Indian chef was insanely good- I had curry 4 nights in a row!!
Wonderful people, beautiful setting, great food, personalised experience. Jenny and the team were outstanding and made our stay memorable. We stayed at the Sofitel as the second part of our trip to contrast smaller boutique hotel with large resort - we wish we had stayed here longer. Much better for couples without kids.
Lautoka
It was a decent place to stay for overnight. The hotel name “airport” was misleading somehow because it was located not at the airport but between the airport and City Center.
lovey little hotel with a great atmosphere. nice bar and such lovely friendly staff.
3 min drive to the Lautoka Wharf to catch the ferry across to Yasawa Islands :)
