Located in Albert and only a 10-minute walk from Somme Trench Museum, COTTAGE DE L'ANCRE provides accommodations with city views, free WiFi and free private parking. This property was the most comfortable we stayed at during 7 weeks of travels. The property was spacious with a well-equipped kitchen and very comfortable upholstered furniture in the living room. The beds had very comfortable mattresses that were nether too soft nor too hard. We slept very well from the first night. Exceptionally clean and spacious bathrooms. The location was perfect with good restaurants and bakeries within 1 - 2 blocks. While inside parking was offered, it was never a problem to find a parking spot on the street directly outside the gate of the cottage. We hope to return next year.

Located in Albert, an 11-minute walk from Somme Trench Museum, 2.2 miles from Lochnagar Crater and 4.2 miles from Fricourt German War Cemetery, Le Faidherbe has accommodations with a balcony and free... Nice and earn for this time of year
There are bars, restaurants and shops to browse but remember they will be closed on Sundays The museum is well worth a visit, allow up to 2 hours if can, followed by a walk in the park. Nearby are many Commonwealth Grave sites to visit, you will find many small ones dotted along the roads and some a little off the road but they are worth a quiet walk round. Please take a pen and sign the visitors books. Driving is easier if you remember that the driver is “in the gutter” ! Watch your speed as they have lower limits on all roads (except the toll roads) We used the channel tunnel which was easy and in France you can get straight on from the motorway as it very well signposted We only have a smattering of French and got by ok but a small phrase book is always handy!
I have been to Albert for 23 years now, before the Ibis opened we stayed at the Hotel de la Paix for many years. One of the things we always enjoyed was a walk through the town in the mornings before breakfast, and a wander around in the evening. A lovely little town abounding in history.
The town is great to walk around but if you visit in August it is quiet due to French holidays. Somme museum is very moving and thought provoking and all related WW1 sites nearby are worth going to see. The French cemetery on the edge of Albert does not seem that large till you realise 6,290 bodies are buried there. People are friendly and enough supermarkets if you are self catering. Would recommend anybody to visit Albert.
Superb centre for visiting Battle of the Somme sites and cemeteries. The Somme Museum in Albert is excellent. The Lochnagar Crater is a must visit monument - but take a tissue! The Thiepval Memorial is also close by. The only negative was the lack of restaurants in Albert. Fortunately the Ibis Albert serves good food.
There is a lot to see. It is slap bang in the middle of the Somme battlefield area with lots of historical connection to the Great War. There is a super museum and interesting sights close by. As lots of tourists pass through, there are plenty of good restaurants. Staff there are helpful and people friendly.
Albert is a very interesting and historic town. There weren't many restaurants or bars and some of them were not alwys open. We ended up eating each night at the Corner Pub, a steakhouse with excellent food at reasonable prices. Everyone we met were friendly and helpful

The kitchen has everything you would need. It is 2 minutes walk from the Basillica and the Square. Anne was on hand to pass us the keys and she explained everything we needed to know.
This is a good basic hotel in it's price range. Rooms are clean and breakfast is good. When I had a question for the staff they were very prompt in assisting me. Nice location and very easy to find. Good parking available.
