Travelers who stayed in Bastia near Bastia - Poretta Airport (BIA) have said good things about Hotel Poretta, Hôtel Les Jardins, and Auberge les Oliviers.
Bastia is a busy ferry harbour city. It is a gateway to Corsica. It has several nice pedestrian only streets with plenty of shops and places to eat. It is fine for a night or two as you enter / exit Corsica (ferry or plane) it is a good hub for onward travel (bus and train) but it is not a holiday destination. There are no beaches within walking distance of the city centre.
This is not a holiday destination for those who like to laze on a sandy beach. It is a very beautiful mountainous island full of history, with its small towns that seem to cling to the sides of the mountains, its ancient buildings that look like they are crumbling, it's narrow winding streets with steps everywhere, its lively restaurants and bars that are a mixture of Corsican and Italian and a sea that is one minute like a mill pond and quite wild the next. The views are breathtaking, and the people are very friendly and proud of their heritage. It is a wild unspoilt place where the language is often Italian, the food has a very italian influence and the people are really kind. The town of Bastia is quite small so take the coastal train or bus. It is possible to visit the whole island in 2 weeks and well worth it.
The range of facilities and the qualities available is surprising. Two Cinemas, both showing the Latest James Bond film with choice of language; a choice of sophisticated shops as well as artistic interests in the area around Place du Marche. Best Restaurant, for me that which is next to Hotel Toju. I appreciate,a little ,the strong individuality of Corsican's but what is making some Towns such as Bastia less enjoyable is the overwhelming presence of cars. Are there no limits on parking stays ? I have also asked if cars can be hired in Bastia, not just at the Airport
If you like constant traffic, street noise, exhaust gases, cars, motorcycles and a huge concrete place opposite the huge ferry port, then Bastia is worth for a stay. I wouldn't know any reason why to stay in this city if not waiting for a ferry.
We were only there for 2 days but the experience was amazing! You need at least a week or 2 to do Corsica properly. Bastia is amazing - so much history complimented by beautiful ocean scapes and wonderful people! Great restaurants - don't listen to your GPS - read the signs that way you won't get lost down a street too narrow for your vehicle!
Bastia is a working Port. Not a beach town like in the south and north such as Calvi. With only a few tourist destinations in the town so a few days is all you need. The train experience in Corsica needs to be more tourist friendly. Needs to cater more for ferry passengers who are backpacking. Lovely food and shops.
We stayed only for one night at the end of our holiday in Corsica. The staff let us use swimming pool and beach even before the check-in time (we arrived at noon) Swimming pool is small but very pleasant. Sea view is superb during both afternoon and morning time. All rooms on the sea side are provided with a small terrasse. The rooms are modern and very clean, beds are very comfy. Location is perfect if you need to catch your ferry: it's only 5min by car. Free parking in front of the hotel is very useful.
The location was great for discovering all parts of Bastia. 10 minutes to the citadel and a lovely walk it is , a stones throw from the harbour and an easy stroll to the beach. The ease of check in and access to the hotel and the rooms was fantastic. The room was well presented, clean and funky just as it said it would be. Loved the decor and the little touches. The staff in the hotel bar were friendly and helpful. Really great place to stay.
Great hotel with very comfortable rooms, ours had amazing views to the pool, garden and sea. The staff was very friendly, accommodating an earlier check-in and letting us enjoy the pool while we waited. The facilities have a parking that always had space and the location is great to discover Bastia and the Cap Corse. We really enjoyed our stay.
The hotel is located in the citadel with lovely restaurants around, generally a good location to be at in Bastia. We had a nice room with a view of the old port of Bastia, everything was reachable on foot, no other modes of transportation were needed once we got there. Room was nice and equipped with most of the necessities needed.
The hotel had a very interesting interior design and the room was nicely equipped with everything necessary. Staff was very friendly and the hotel was so centrally located that you would come across it everywhere you tried to go. Loved the small courtyard of the building 😍
The location is very convenient, close enough to the centre to walk but far enough that it is less busy. The hotel has a private car park which is very convenient in a busy city like Bastia. The rooms are well equipped with a fridge, large beds and a microwave.
location was perfect for someone coming into town by bus or train and leaving or coming by ferry. close to everything (everything in Bastia is walking distance). the staff spoke many languages and were very helpful with getting city information
Very friendly owner and wife. Location is extreme good with a very nice garden and access right away to the beach. City is walking distance and 2 minutes by car from the ferry
Hotel is great but it would benefit of having more commodoties such as having a ketle for tea, a hair dryer, and could also have a small gym and sauna.
Friendly reception, very clean overall, comfy room and bed, within walking distance from city center and close to Bastia-Livorno ferry.
New and very clean hotel close to down town (walking distance). Very friendly owner. Terrific breakfast. Easy parking.
Wonderful small hotel with a great stuff and a great sense of hospitality. We will be back again for sure.
Good location, just a small walk away from Bastia center and parking
