Bedford is a charming city although the high street area is tired and a lot of empty retail spaces. The market is wonderful, the riverside area is lovely and a nice place to take a walk anytime of the day. Some nice bars, restaurants along the river too. The town area is run down and in need of serious reinvention. However! Great pubs, night spots, museum options and some good nightlife can be found here. The surrounding villages are charming and offer the tradition English ambience in the historic pubs and restaurants around.

Bedford is a nice place to walk and see all the historic remains, esp. of the famous tinker and preacher John Bunyan. We were not fond of the possibilities for parking our car, all places were filled up and we must seek long before finding a good place.

No criticism. For the cost and convenience of my travel. All was very good. We were visiting friends nearby, and collecting a friend to bring back home to Wales. Where we live. Didn't get to see Bedford., but have been to the town in the past.

We visited Bedford to see a friends and attend an event, and we really enjoy the town. The area around the Embankment is especially lovely, with decent hotels and plenty of food options. Like many towns, Bedford has suffered from retail closures after Covid, and parts of the centre could definitely benefit from some regeneration — hopefully that’s in the plans.
One absolute highlight was eating in Kempston at The Mulberry Bush. The food was so lovely that I’d happily book room‑only in future and travel to Kempston just for breakfast. It was genuinely that good.
The nightlife in Bedford was varied and surprisingly decent, with something for everyone. For accommodation, I’d recommend The Embankment Hotel if you’re travelling with a dog, and The Swan if you’re not. There are also solid options like Mercure and Premier Inn nearby.
Russell Park was beautiful, and a walk along the Embankment is definitely worth doing. The town has a very mixed, welcoming culture — I felt at home there, and if I could afford it, I’d happily move. A very nice place overall.

Bedford itself was lovely- luxury central apartments were awful and the host was the rudest I’ve ever come across . The rooms were dirty - the microwave full of mouldy food and everything set up for only two people when I paid for four

Partly Business trip - What a wonderful Experience.
Partly Business trip - What a wonderful Experience. Lovely setting on the river and so close to center of town - 10 min stroll way. Staff and Food are excellent and have a lot of fun and great Customer Service.
Only down point (from our point of view) is lack of disability access to rooms - Only stairs .
Bed was comfortable, Room was Large, but very small bathroom

Staff were very friendly and helpful. Alessia at the hotel reception was exceptionally helpful towards my missus and I and helped us book a later check out. Room was spacious and very clean. Bar was just downstairs and we could order breakfast in the morning and eat up in our room which was nice. Cheap and cheerful stay whilst visiting a gig at the Bedford Esquires just down the road. Lots of local shops and food outlets nearby also if you didn't want to eat at the restaurant.

The property was so clean! It is small but lots of really thoughtful and nice touches that made us feel like we were staying in a posh hotel!
The area in Bedford is close to the town centre and the train station. We had a great night out and a short walk home.
The flat is beautifully decorated and you can see that the place is well maintained.

This hotel is in a close location to the city centre, all in walking distance. The room was comfortable. The reception staff was pleasant. The food in the restaurant was lovely. There is car parking available on site. A pleasant stay overall. I would certainly return if staying in Bedford again.

The location is really lovely. Just a short drive into Bedford and all amenities yet completely in the countryside with open views of farmland on a working farm. Easy to get to from motorway. The units are well appointed with quality furnishings and have everything you need to be self catering.

The hotel was lovely, for the price we paid it felt like a luxurious treat.
The staff were friendly and helpful, location was spot on.
We would highly recommend The Bedford Swan Hotel and look forward to visiting again.
