FAQs about hotels in Luton

A Bedfordshire Getaway

Set between 2 of England’s principal motorways – the M1 and A1(M) – Luton is best known as an arrival point of cheap flights to London. A low cost carrier hub, Luton Airport is home to the unmistakable orange headquarters of Easyjet.

Booking.com offers hotels within the airport grounds, as well as accommodation including guest houses in the town nearby, many of which offer free parking. However, this is not the only reason to visit.

Luton once had an important role in hat-making, an industry which has given its name to the Hat Factory performing arts venue. The town’s huge carnival is based in leafy Wardown Park, home of Luton Museum and Art Gallery.

Local crafts from yesteryear are displayed in the discovery centre at Stockwood Park. Also here is one of the golf courses surrounding the town, and just east is a spa and swimming pool at the Luton Hoo country house hotel. Another golf course borders the Dunstable Downs to the west, and a third is by Whipsnade Zoo, the largest in the UK.

Luton shopping options include The Mall (previously the Arndale Centre), and the nearby station offers direct trains to London St Pancras. Available restaurants cover everything from Indian to Caribbean and Malaysian.

We usually don’t see a lot of Luton sadly, our focus is in getting to Watford on the Sunday afternoon, to attend a yearly function. But what we’ve seen on our annual trips has been enjoyable. The low and fixed bus fares are grand, the bus drivers on the way in from the airport are always friendly and helpful. We usually stay from the Saturday to the Monday. This year instead of the 19.30 flight back to Glasgow, we came back on the 09.55 flight. This meant we were not hanging around all day, that has been tiering in the past! We are not young anymore, next year we’ll do the same!

We were there for the EddFest (3days) rock experience at Knebworth so had to stay 2 nights. There were a lot of people just hanging around the hotel area so didn’t look around the town. The hotel was on a very busy junction and the main road was very noisy with (young) drivers trying to make as much noise as possible, racing, backfiring exhausts etc. Not pleasant when trying to sleep. It looked like someone was living/sleeping/begging on the central reservation on the main traffic lights. There were bags just left on the pavement for the duration of our visit. We ate out of town due to feeling uncomfortable trying to find any restaurants with people just hanging around. I noticed they were mainly foreign nationals unfortunately, which I don’t like to mention. Parking was difficult around the hotel. I am a wheelchair user so my blue badge was helpful, even though we still struggled finding a safe place to park. The whole area just felt and looked old and tired and would not stay again.

The hotel is very close to the airport, about 10-12 minutes walk. If you have a flight at 6 in the morning, the road is very busy at 4 o'clock, so it's better to walk. It's not far at all. For one night it's ok to stay there. The room is cheap (relatively) and... modest, but clean. You can have dinner at the hotel restaurant. The pizza offer is rich, and it's not expensive! Thanks IBIS LUTON HOTEL!

I haven’t been in central Luton for some 40 years, it’s definitely a town in the up with great restaurants, pedestrianised areas and also lots of new developments and old buildings beautifully renovated. Would highly recommend 50nine for brunch. Amazing!

It was very noisy and rowdy in the centre as a woman alone I did not always feel safe. If I need to visit again I would stay out of the town centre the location convenience was not worth the lack of sleep or security.

The hotel is conveniently located close to the airport. Despite the proximity to the runway, the rooms are very well soundproofed. The room itself was clean, modern, and very comfortable. I especially appreciated the early breakfast option, available from 4 AM — perfect for early flights or day trips. Getting to Luton town center was also quick and easy, making it a great base for a short visit.

It certainly isnt at Luton Airport. It is in Hightown about 5 minutes walk to the railway station and 10 minutes to the town centre. The area is a bit shabby but I didnt feel unsafe. Lots of nearby shops and takeaways. Restaurants in Luton or in Hightown (I went for a curry there, 12 mins walk)

The staff at London Luton Airport Ibis were friendly and approachable. Were it not for the staff, this would have been an utterly disastrous stay. We also liked how close this hotel is to the airport and, in that aspect, it served its purpose. The airport was only a 10 minute walk away.
