FAQs about hotels in Milton Keynes

A Hub of Entertainment

Best known for its concrete cows and legendary roundabout system, Milton Keynes is just off the M1 motorway linking Birmingham and London. Its proximity to the latter triggered its development from village to new town in the 1960s.

Milton Keynes Village still exists, between tranquil Ouzel Valley Park and Willen Lake with its peace pagoda and watersports. Next door, Gulliver’s Land children’s theme park is bordered by the Grand Union Canal, whose banks have cycle and footpaths.

In the town centre is the aptly named MK Hub, an entertainment core near the train station. In addition to accommodation, bars and restaurants, it houses the huge Xscape complex, comprising the Airkix Indoor Skydiving centre, cinemas, and the UK’s largest indoor ski slope. Nearby are the shops of Centre: MK and Midsummer Place.

On the town’s outskirts is the National Bowl entertainment venue, and Bletchley Park, where the German Enigma code was cracked during World War II. To the east Woburn Abbey has a large safari park, while north-west is Silverstone, home of the British Grand Prix. The Red Bull Racing F1 team are based in Milton Keynes, and the MK Dons are the local football team. The Open University is also headquartered here.

Of the many Milton Keynes hotels, apartments and B&Bs on Booking.com, most have parking and some have swimming pools.

I enjoyed a meal with friends at the Olive Tree restaurant,...

I enjoyed a meal with friends at the Olive Tree restaurant, the very popular restaurant, serving Mediterranean (Turkish?) food, which is almost opposite the Leonardo Hotel in central Milton Keynes. The food is excellent and the service is good, but it does get busy as the evening goes on! The city centre is spacious, with wide boulevards and fresh air. The unique design of the City is interesting. Pedestrians and cyclists are generally kept separate, which has advantages and disadvantages. It does reduce pollution from traffic jams as traffic is kept moving. The public transport is generally poor, with an unreliable bus service, although on this occasion I was lucky.

I know MK well as lived there 25 years ago(1966-1999).

I know MK well as lived there 25 years ago(1966-1999). Remember it before it became MK. Its great for the younger generation or anyone who wants everything on their doorstep. Lots to do and see, plenty of places to eat. Its easy to get from A to B. Not for me now. Family all moved to Devon, unfortunately wouldn't come back except to visit. Personal choice.

Don't like Milton Keynes at all.

Don't like Milton Keynes at all. Only reason for going there was to visit family. It is easy to get around M.K. but Sat Nav is essential. Ate at Miller & Carter, absolutely first class in every aspect . Next visit will probably much the same only going there for family.
