A big thank you for offering clean and comfy accomodation and great food to walkers in a remote and beautiful location. You make such a difference to walking and staying in the Duddon Valley :))) and helping me to do the Wainwrights (Hard Knott, Harter Fell and Green Crag) on foot.

The accommodation was excellent, in particular, the ensuite. A beautiful log fire welcomed me and a pint of local ale. The food was all locally sourced and I opted for traditional ham and eggs. The Woolpack is situated at the head of Eskdale and is completely off the beaten track. Will be returning in the future.

We like to stay away from main towns and Boot, in Eskdale is ideal. There are good walks to do locally, Wasdale and Langdale are both less than 45 mins away. Ambleside is a similar drive but you have to be prepared for Wrynose & Hardknott passes! La'al Ratty terminal station Dalegarth is very close.

Park up and hike.

Park up and hike. Or use the Ratty to steam into Ravenglass (and from there you can connect to the rest of Lake District on public transport). You have three pubs (Boot, Woolpack, Brook Inn) all excellent in their own right.

An attractive pub , good food, and helpful staff.

An attractive pub , good food, and helpful staff. Because of its popularity getting a table for one is limited. I was put in the window table on both occasions and on the second time on my own so I had asked if I had been naughty. They had managed to squeeze a small double bed into my room. But it was a bit short and I’m only 5:10 - at a push. 😂. However the mattress was very cozy and soft sheets. The coffee bags were very good as were the biscuits.

Boot is a very small collection of houses in Eskdale, with the Boot Inn at its centre. The is Water Mill and St. Catherine's Church is 1/2 mile away, beside the Esk river. Boot is also close to Dalegarth Station, the end of the small gauge railway from Ravenglass, known as the La'al Ratty. Boot is a good location for exploring the Western fells on foot or by cycle. There is a wonderful trail beside the Esk river, which can be used by walkers or cyclist alike.

Not easy access to Boot due to narrow roads but worth it.

Not easy access to Boot due to narrow roads but worth it. The Ravenglass steam railway is very close and worth the trip. A lot of interesting country pubs in the Boot area that are worth checking out, in particular the Boot Inn with a outdoor beer garden and very good food and friendly owners and staff.

Pub is lovely.

Pub is lovely. Room we had was spacious reasonably clean and very comfortable. Food very nice. Breakfast ample choice. Fresh and well cooked. Restaurant menu reasonable variety and each dish we had was well presented. Good portions and very tasty. Be aware this is a dog friendly venue. Not all the clientele have good control of their dogs. Not suitable unless you have your own transport.

We stopped for the night during a multiday bikepacking holiday in the Lake District. The inn was lovely, the room was very comfortable and the food was very tasty. Communication with the hotel was great, we prearranged bike storage and the staff were very helpful on arrival despite the pub being very busy.
