The compact space had everything needed and more besides. It was warm, comfortable and exceptionally clean. The added touch of a welcome pack was really appreciated. I stayed for two nights, I was not disturbed at all and slept really well. I would certainly stay again and I highly recommend this lovely Shepherds Hut as a great venue for a base or in my case, visiting family close by. I met Howard, Rachel’s Husband on the road, he was friendly and made me feel very welcome.

Beautiful newly renovated cottage. There was plenty of space for our group of 5 adults and I loved how sociable the open kitchen and lounge was. The kitchen was very well equipped and we enjoyed the garden in the evenings. The electric fire was great too!

Unspoilt, unpretentious, relaxed small town with friendly people and fabulous cafe by the river. Great location for Cumbria and Northumberland, for walking and sightseeing. Solo travellers will feel at home here.

The hotel is a beautifully refurbished old coaching inn on the banks of Swindale Beck in the Eden district of Cumbria. Everyone was welcoming and friendly and our room was spacious and spotless. We had a delicious evening meal of local lamb and plenty of fresh vegetables. Breakfast was equally good. We had a walk around Brough village which has a castle with adjacent dairy farm and café selling their ice cream and milk. There is also an Andy Goldsworthy installation in the primary school grounds.

Staff were amazing and very accommodating, rooms and hotel was very clean, beds were by far the best I have ever slept in, slept like a log. There were 7 of us staying and everyone commented about how comfortable they were and how well they slept.

As I was travelling solo it was good to feel more like a house guest than a client in an impersonal hotel. I enjoy the warm ambience of personal photographs and antique artefacts in this village home.
