Very good hotel. Very friendly staff. Good breakfast, except for the sausage, which I unfortunately couldn't eat, but that's subjective. I'd gladly stay again! Great!

It was everything you’d hope for. Clean, homely, all the amenities you need, beautiful details everywhere. Fresh milk in the fridge, lovely owners that message you there’s an umbrella by the door when it starts raining. A dream!

The warm welcome; the friendly staff; the location not far from the ferry port; the dinner enjoyed in the cosy pub; and the very comfortable room. As we left early, we did not have breakfast but they gave us a substantial picnic bag to take with us.

The apartment was very comfortable and quiet. It had everything we needed for an overnight stay, including a microwave to reheat some ready meals for dinner. I especially liked the carpets as I usually have cold feet and this helped.

The room was very cute and clean! The house is located on a little hill with a great view. It's a 10-15 min walk into town. The hosts were super nice and accommodating. We even got some vegan breakfast options which we very much appreciated. I would totally recommend this place!

FAQs about hotels in Dover

An Ancient Port of Call

Dover is famous for the white cliffs which would have been a striking sight to the Romans as they advanced on England. They decided to construct a port at this strategic spot and it has held an important role ever since. Ferries to Calais and Dunkirk cross the English Channel several times daily and some brave souls even manage to swim across.

A Roman lighthouse still stands atop a hill overlooking the port, but is easily missed as it was incorporated into Saxon St Mary de Castro Church as the bellower. It is found within the grounds of 13th-century Dover Castle, one of England’s largest castles, whose multi-level ramparts sit above tunnels where the World War II Dunkirk evacuation was planned.

Another Roman monument is the Painted House whose remains include some of the best-preserved Roman murals north of Italy. Even older is the Bronze Age boat displayed in Dover Museum.

The Dover Transport Museum showcases vintage vehicles, and the Blériot Memorial marks the spot where the first airplane to fly across the Channel first touched English soil. A path runs along the top of the nearby cliffs, while at their feet is a shingle beach.

The Dover accommodation on Booking.com includes luxury hotels with pools, cheap inns and B&Bs near the train station.

Dover is a nice, English town.

Dover is a nice, English town. I was able to walk to the restaurant of my choosing but it would be too far for other people. I was only there for one day, waiting to get to my cruise ship the next day. I wouldn't recommend walking to the cruise ship. The taxi line is right at the train station and it was easy to share a cab to the ship.

Dover Castle is spectacular.

Dover Castle is spectacular. It dominates the town and is a must for a visit. We walked along the White Cliffs of Dover to the Lighthouse. Another must. It was a beautiful day and a wonderful walk. We also went down the 2nd WW tunnels - you must do this tour! Dover town itself is a big disappointment. It is drab, it has few shops and places to eat. It feels depressed and sad.

I travelled to Dover via train and the journey was great. as you approach Dover it travels past the hiking trail in Dover near the cliffs. It is a port town with lots of interesting walks. I walked from the station to my hotel and the route was filled with 'lil bits of local and historical information. Definitely worth spending a day or 2 exploring.

I live in London, so I was looking for a place where I could relax, away from the crowds, and breathe some fresh air. Dover was a great choice. The town isn't overcrowded, it's quiet, peaceful, and there are delicious restaurants nearby.

We arrived by train so the location was perfect. Just a short walk from the train station. On arrival our host was friendly and welcoming. Our room was clean and pleasant. The bathroom was small but functional with plenty of hot water. Breakfast was great. We could see Dover Castle from the street in front of the house. It was a short walk to downtown and to the seafront.

Stayed here night before getting a ferry. Location is fantastic as the ferry port is just over the roundabout so a very ideal place to stay and would do so again. Parking is easy to find as you can either park on road or outside the hotel. Room was clean and spacious.
