Very cosy room with large comfy bed and excellent hot shower. Location meant that good restaurants were literally next door or within 10 min walk. And breakfast/brunch was easily sorted due to the many cafes nearby. Great tv options needed on winter nights with Netflix, iPlayer, and many other options. Had difficulty with heating when we arrived on a very cold day, so I texted the owner and he promptly responded. He turned heating on remotely and turned up later to check that all was OK. So although there is no staff on site, you knew there was someone to help as necessary.

FAQs about hotels in Kent

The Peaceful Garden of England

The so-called Garden of England, Kent is known for its lush greenery. Although within easy reach of London, it’s a world away from the hustle and bustle. So much so, that at many Kent hotels, spa facilities come as standard. One is, unsurprisingly, in the sophisticated spa town of Royal Tunbridge Wells.

Nearby in Lamberhurst is medieval Scotney Castle, surrounded by a moat. Also moat-bound and with Kent accommodation available on Booking.com are Hever Castle and Leeds Castle (the latter in a village not to be confused with the city of Leeds).

The county town is Maidstone, but its most famous city is Canterbury, whose magnificent cathedral is the seat of the Church of England’s highest post. Rochester also has an impressive cathedral.

To the west is Margate, one of the top Kent seaside towns. Other resorts with long beaches are Broadstairs, Ramsgate and Deal. Around the coastline, Dover is known for its white cliffs, castle and the ferries crossing the English Channel to France. To the west is the Channel Tunnel by Folkestone, and Eurostar trains from St Pancras also stop at Ashford inland.

Other popular Kent attractions are the Romney, Hythe and Dymchurch railway, Brands Hatch motor racing circuit, and the conical oast houses so typical of this part of England.

My wife and I had an amazing experience at Rowhill Grange Hotel & Utopia Spa. The staff were incredibly kind and helpful, making our stay truly special. The spa was perfect for relaxation, and the overall atmosphere was peaceful and luxurious. A big thank you for their excellent service – we accidentally left an item behind, and they quickly arranged for its return. Highly recommend this hotel for a relaxing getaway! Surprising amount to see and do in and around Dover. City centre shopping not great but the Castle, white cliffs and surrounding area had many, very good sites for visitors. If visiting the castle - highly recommended - take good walking shoes as it covers a lot of area and has a lot of steps and slopes. A full day out in itself.

We did not spend much time in Ashford itself, but as far as we're told, there isn't much there. The Boy's Hall was a rather nice restaurant in the center and apparently there is a shopping outlet. I also went boxing at Bill's Boxing Club, which was the best, and my favourite thing in Ashford—but you need to be a boxer! Ashford is located nicely in the center of Kent, however, so from there we could make easy trips to Folkestone, Canterbury, Leeds Castle, and Rye, among others. For this, it is recommended, although it might be nice to stay only a day or two and then move on to the next place.

I know Tunbridge Wells, sadly unlike Harrogate and Cheltenham it has been deficient in Council funds for some time and the only thing happening is retirement flats where the local developers have given backhanders to the Council. The parks and 200 acre common are attractive. The Pantiles has only three long term shops the rest are coffee shops which turn over. Thackeray’s and The Warren the best lunching places. Sadly the Tunbridge Wells cricket week has been allowed to disappear and the station car park normally has broken lifts.

There are some really nice places to eat. The Mexican and. sargasso on the harbour. Don't be deterred by the smell as you approach. It smells like a sewer but in fact it is just seaweed that has been washed up and the smell disappears as you get to the restaurants. The beach is fabulous but Dreamland was a big disappointment

We liked the harbour and the coastal paths to the north and south of Ramsgate. There are some good restaurants and bars bordering the harbour area. The amusements area is small, not taking over the the atmosphere of the place like in some other holiday places along the east coast. Beach is extensive, sandy with shallow entry and perfect for adults and kids. There is some pleasant architecture in the houses bordering the sea but the interior of town, just up from the harbour, is quite run-down with empty shops, some boarded up, other in various stages of reconstruction. Long term car park, very close to the harbour area is very useful and not expensive.
