What a great location, overlooking the cathedral and Cromwell’s House, very pretty views. The room was clean and pleasant and the copper bath was a beautiful touch. The bar was our favourite place, comfy chairs and couches was the best for afternoon tea. The breakfast food and service was very good.

The Ely Cathedral is outstanding. Take the Tower Tour to go right up to the top and walk on the roof for a fantastic view of the town. The design of the octagonal tower after the collapse of the old tower is an engineering marvel for its time. The original oak buttresses used are still in place. Listen to the guide for an enthralling account of how the builders overcame the obstacles to build this cathedral. Oliver Cromwell Museum is also a definite must visit. The Visitor Information Centre is housed in the original building where Cromwell stayed with his family.
Uniquely beautiful Cathedral dominates this small city and a tour inside including the Stained Glass Museum cannot be missed. Great, eclectic independent shops as well as nice shopping precincts with the inevitable high street brand labels. Visit on a Saturday to include the food and craft markets, which add atmosphere an extra buzz to the square. On a sunny day, pick up a fresh pack lunch and walk a short distance down to the marina and enjoy a picnic lunch on a bench and take in the boats, swans and ducks. Can't wait to visit again!
The Pubs and their food were very good. Parking is a big Problem in Ely and the narrow roads can be quite nerve racking when cars are parked on both sides of the road. The river Ouse is well worth a visit with the Long boats and boat Yards. The Fens are also worth a visit and any nature lover, walker and bird watcher has their fair share to choose from around Ely. The A10 is a nightmare at rush hour and to be avoided if possible. We walked nearly everwhere as we were only 5 mins from the town centre and even down to the river was no Problem. The Cathedral Needs no comment as its history and architecture speaks for its self.
Ely is compact so getting around is easy. There are plenty of restaurants (I chose Eat Thai and was delighted), watering holes and hotels that do breakfast including for non-residents (eg The Lamb hotel). The cathedral is the centre piece and visible from just about everywhere. Station has good connections to Cambridge and London but also up to the Norfolk coast.
Visit the beautiful Cathedral, highlights include the lady chapel and the stained glass museum. Visit Oliver Cromwell's house. Visit the pretty riverside with tea-rooms, restaurants and parks (Jubilee park and children's play parks) Ely museum is interesting and house in the old gaol.
The Cathedral always fills me with awe it is magnificent. The town is very old with plenty to see and places to eat. We found a pleasant pub just off the main square which allowed us to take our pet dog inside.
I liked and enjoyed everything about my stay. The owner was fantastic and very accommodating. If you want somewhere to stay that’s not an average hotel then this is definitely the place to stay. Great experience. In the morning when asked what would I like for breakfast I replied “two fried eggs on toast but I would like butter and jam on the toast first, with the eggs on top”.... not the most regular of orders I am sure but it was not problem or him, we had a laugh about it.
The studio is exceptionally clean and well equipped. It's in a very quiet village location, we did some lovely walks with our dog. Ely is beautiful, lots to see and do. The wi fi worked well for us but it was nicer to listen to the birds singing in the trees outside our window!
Within walking distance of the city centre whilst sitting in a very peaceful and beautiful garden we unfortunately didn't get to explore. Quirky and interesting interior. Wished we could have spent more time there.
Lovely stay with only a short walk to the city centre. Quiet area to stay at night, although we did stay on a Sunday, so I don’t know what weekend nights are like.
