With beautiful views of rural Northumberland, this 4-star bed and breakfast offers bright, spacious rooms with free Wi-Fi. The cottage is 2 miles from the A1, set between Morpeth and Alnwick. Accommodation excellent. Mel and George were very eager to please with many thoughtful facilities on offer. Breakfast included a choice of cereals, yogurt, fresh fruit, fruit juices, cooked breakfast, toast and tea or coffee. Attractive surrounding area to explore. Good COVID-19 precautions. Good parking.
Beautiful location in an old hall. Our Sea-Biscuit Room was excellent with a huge bathroom with shower enclosure. A spa bath would have been an added luxury but you cant have everything, similarly the room would have benefited from a king sized, even a super king size bed and there would have still been loads of room. Breakfast choice and quality was excellent - we did not eat in the hotel at night so am unable to make a comment but if the food was as good as it was at breakfast then I am sure it will be excellent. Selection of wines and bottled beers available at usual prices for hotel of this quality. No spa or gym on site but I believe the RPG's sister hotel at Doxford has these facilities so may try that next year.
Lots of hidden gems to discover. You do need a car but you don't have to drive far to fall upon a beautiful place to explore. One place we won't forget is Simonside, just out of Rothbury. It was recommended to us by a waiter and we weren't disappointed. A steep rugged climb in places ( not suitable for pushchairs or wheelchairs), but the views when you reach the top are breathtaking... Literally!
The woodland setting was very nice for our dog. However the food offering fell very short of expectation. Cold food, cold plates and dishes which were described in a very "gourmand" style on the menu but didn't play out in reality. The dining area in the "ballroom" had no ambience whatsoever. Bedroom very much in need of refurb to bring it up to date
Very comfortable room with 2 arm chairs to sit and enjoy the lovely view Plenty of drinks options in the room Hosts very helpful allowing our little dog to stay and offering help with lost car keys Stairs quite steep to our room
After a difficulty with the bedroom electrics on the first night which the staff were unable to resolve that evening despite trying very hard. Electrician sorted the problem next morning. The manager handled the query extremely well with a smile and a fair reduction of cost, sweetened with a gift at dinner.
Everything was wonderful, from booking to leaving, and we could have stayed longer it was such a lovely experience. The staff were amazing and the chef was very accommodating as he made a special vegetarian meal for me. Our two Rottweiler's were made a fuss of also, which just made us feel very welcome. We will definitely return.
