What’s not to like! A great castle, dog friendly pubs that sell reasonable food, marvellous riverside walks and the hidden gem of a fabulous beach. Further afield there is the outstandingly beautiful Northumberland coast and its great little towns and villages.
Pretty and quiet seaside village with tiny lanes, lovely scenery and walks along the local beach footpaths. Excellent restaurants and tea rooms. Parking is not easy but there is easy access by bus from the rail station to the village and to nearby coastal villages and further afield north to Berwick and south to Newcastle and also notably nearby to Alnwick that hosts nationally famous Barter Books and the very expensive Alnwick Castle, (too expensive for ordinary people). Go there as a base for other towns to visit in Northumberland.
Alnwick Castle and Gardens were well worth the visit. Alniwick is also ideal as a base to visit other Northumberland towns and fishing villages. The Northumberland coast is beautiful.
We did the pilgrims walk to Lindesfarne with our your guide,Patrick of Footsteps in Northumberland,in the morning which was amazing We then walked the coastal path from Budle Bay into Bamburgh in the evening and headed for The Castle Inn for a meal and a well deserved bottle of Sauvignon Blanc!! We got a taxi back. I am a regular visitor to the Bamburgh area. Love it.
Bonus to be in Beadnell on Northumberland day. Activities on in the town and on the beach. Got a row on 'Grace Darling' - beautiful skiff. Pipe band brilliant. Craster Inn - very friendly staff, good food, good entertainment, great beer garden.
The perfect place to stay when planning a trip to the Farne islands. They even put dolphins on for us this visit! Lovely shell collecting beach near the harbour, lots of seabirds to spot, and a nice little town centre. Also a great base for exploring beautiful bamburgh, magical holy island and the rest of the fabulous Northumberland coast.
For us Newbiggin-by-the-Sea met our requirements of having a good base from which to explore the Northumberland region and its attractive coastline, castles, town's and villages. The Maritime Centre and cafe is worth a visit and we enjoyed the local Italian restaurant. It's easy to get around and although very quiet that suited us after a day out travelling across the region.
Bellingham is a beautiful, central location for the Kielder and Otterburn areas of the Northumberland National Park. A beautiful village feel with plenary to do and great amenities!
Berwick on Tweed is a lovely town well situated for trips to the Northumberland coast. The Tourist Information Centre are helpful especially for people without a car. There is a Day Discovery ticket for £6.60 which was great to go along the coast. Bamburgh Castle was amazing. In Craster the walk out towards Dunstanburgh Castle is great too There are nice pubs in Berwick offering good meals especially the Brewer's Arms. The ramparts are a great walk any time of day.
If you have good weather you can't beat Northumberland and even if you can't it's still fantastic. My own favourite is the stretch of coast from Craster to Beadnell. Fantastic food in Craster and Low Newton and amazing beaches.

The hotel is an old coaching inn, is tastefully decorated and comfortably furnished with good quality furniture and fittings. All of the staff with whom we had contact were friendly yet professional, helpful and obliging, and good humoured! The quality of the food served is excellent, with more than generous portions. The restaurant staff are attentive but aren't overpowering. The hotel does what it does very well indeed. All in all, a lovely place to stay for a relaxing break in Northumberland!

We stayed in the hideaway. It was perfect had another grown up with us and he slept on a bed made up in the living room. A lovely surprise to find the hideaway was a little type of apartment. Double bedroom un suite. Separate toilet for other guest. Living area with seated area. Kitchenette etc. Pub next door very nice and Milan restaurant the other side was fantastic.. This accommodation really added a plus to our stay in Northumberland. I will be booking again for sure. No hassle stay.

The location of this hotel was very good and it was nice to see they had an extensive gin menu which was exciting. The place was well presented with very nice decor and furniture. Perfect for a Northumberland/Scottish vibe. We liked this a lot. and we also enjoyed a short sit on the terrace to enjoy our drinks in the sun before the rain came. We also thought the staff uniform was very nice with the tartan waistcoats.

We stayed at the Coquetvale Hotel for three nights. Breakfasts and evening meals, served in the attractive and spacious restaurant, were all excellent. Our room (Dunstanburgh) was an attic room with a lovely view over Rothbury. The king-size bed was very comfortable. There is free parking at the hotel which is a short walk from the town centre and well situated for visiting Cragside and other attractions in Northumberland.

The hotel is excellent, we stayed in the Snug, superb, own parking place at your front door. Great value. Ideally located. The staff are very friendly and look after you. Highly recommended this hotel and in the winter they have some great offers. So if you are looking for a good budget break in Northumberland you will be hard pushed in my opinion to find any better place.

This is a fantastic pub hotel. The staff are really friendly. The attitude towards dogs is fantastic (which is really appreciated) and the quality of food and drink is great. It's also really well-located for exporing this beautiful part of Northumberland. All in all a real winner. Well done to the Cheviot Staff and management team!

Located in the town centre and near 4 pubs, a hotel and an Indian restaurant. Very clean, rooms adequate and a superb breakfast. Very friendly owner and staff. Plenty of parking straight outside. Well located for trips to Hadrian's Wall and the Roman Forts, plus a base for driving further up the Northumberland coast.

The location of the Hotel was ideal for us as we were visiting friends on the Northumberland coast and also wished to see some of rural Northumberland with its wonderful hills and great open spaces. The staff were particularly helpful and charming and made our stay very happy.

The room felt very comfortable. Just what you needed after a days walking. The breakfast set me up well for the next days trek on The Northumberland Coastal Path. The alley way next to the hotel was a short cut to St Aidans Dunes and back to the path. Ideal.

The staff were outstandingly helpful, the absence of a lift was overcome by members of staff who helped with our luggage. Meals were high quality and our room was the best in the hotel. Would be happy to return to the hotel and to Northumberland.

The perfect location for visiting Alnwick and all other sights up and down the Northumberland coast- easy access to the dual carriageway, yet not too much noise at night. Clean rooms and comfortable beds, with some friendly hotel staff (not all!).

Small but very pleasant studio type apartment in a semi rural location fitted out to a very high standard and spotlessly clean. 5 minute drive and 20 minute walk into Alnwick. Proximity to A1 makes it a great base for exploring Northumberland.
