Hawkhurst is a small town, but has the amenities you need such as supermarkets and shops. It is ideally situated for a number of attractions in the area, such as Sissinghurst, Bodiam Castle, Great Dixter etc.
Nice country pubs and easy to find shops. Waitrose and Tesco are very helpful and off the main street. Great scenery nearby. Nice people. We drove to Hawkhurst and enjoyed some beautiful spring weather. Feels very rural but with benefits of local services. Would certainly return.
A busy road junction with a few uninteresting shops. The corner cafe is worth a visit if you happen to be passing through and in need of refreshment. The Royal Oak Hotel inside looks not like it was decorated 1968 and not touched since. Road traffic has high priority over pedestrians at the cross road crossing. Hawkhurst is more of a road than a place.
An ideal place to be based for exploring the local area. We enjoyed Sissinghurst Castle and Bodium Castle. Some good places to eat nearby. We had a delicious meal at The Great House. Buzzy atmosphere and excellent service.
We chose Hawkhurst as it was only 15 minutes from Sissinghurst Garden. The village itself was very attractive, but sadly suffers from endless traffic, especially leading up to the traffic lights in the centre.
There was plenty of room for our bags and the general hospitality was great. It was comfortable and relaxing and the food was second to none. The only thing that we had difficulty with was not having a shower available. At our age we are unable to get in and out of a bath, but we managed O.K. All in all, it was good value for money and appropriate for our needs.
