If you like to be off the beaten track it is wonderful. The accommodation is really good, location is fantastic, gravel beach 2 mins from the property, at night you can properly see the stars Not far from Fraserburgh with eating places, supermarket, fuel etc.
Pennan is a lovely village, magnificent views and very picturesque. A must visit for fans of the film 'Local Hero'. Local Pub offers good food, and if you are lucky you might get to see the Northern Lights
Rather than stay in a hotel in Fraserbrough (for a funeral) I stayed here 2 nights in winter and the place provide the perfect atmosphere I was looking for - hiked around the rocks/headland in low tide to Pennan village and back by the road, also hiked the trail toward Rosehearthy to the farm ruin on the hill. Very well fitted out with all appliances, etc. for such a historic building. Excellent access to beach.
Idyllic ex-fishing village, now mostly holiday lets. Found fame in 1983 when parts of Local Hero were filmed here, iconic red telephone box still present. Access by a single steep perilous road. Pennan Inn is the only tourist facility - no shops, pubs, other restaurants or tearooms - and does good food with Thai influence. Occasional events in village hall - special screening of "Casablanca" (with food and gin-tasting) while we were there - wonderful! Pleasant walk to Aberdour Bay from village.
Nice to stay in a place which everything is not on a budget and that has staff that care about their jobs and are well chosen. Its great that it serves food and has a bar. Located in a real beauty spot and we really could find nothing to complain about.
Pennan is an incredibly nice village on the sea. It's very small and quite, but definitely worth a visit. We had dinner at Pennan Inn restaurant, which is the only restaurant in Pennan, but has very good food.
