In the heart of the market town of Romsey The White Horse is just a few yards from Romsey Abbey. This 14th-century boutique hotel offers a brasserie and bright, elegant rooms. The breakfast was fantastic and really good value Good shower, comfortable bed Very quiet room
A 15-minute walk from Romsey town center and Romsey Abbey, Richmond Lane Guest House - AA Accredited has a spacious garden with comfortable seating and sun loungers. Very easy to get to from Romsey station. We had everything we needed and felt very relaxed and comfortable there. It was clean and very well organized. Also Julia responded to me instantly whenever I had a question and stayed up till midnight to let us in when we first arrived.
Lovely place to have a wander but the Abbey was closed. Very clean with the main square a coffee stop. Shame there was nowhere open to eat on Sunday evening so had to make do with a takeaway pizza. Will definitely like another visit. The Three Tuns did good food as did The Olive tree.
Romsey Abbey is very interesting. Lots of small independent shops. Cafes and restaurants galore. St Johns House is reasonably priced and also interesting. The memorial park was pleasant and cool shade under the trees.
A charming small town with interesting historical buildings and a pedestrianised centre. Also a small museum and abbey church. Lots of cafes with outdoor seating and independent small shops. Worth a wander around.
We used this location as an overnight stop on the way west. I don't like to drive too far in a day and find a stopover very relaxing. It adds an extra day to your holiday if planned well. The Cromwell Arms was an excellent choice. Romsey gave us the chance to stop at one National Trust property, Hinton Ampner, on the way down from London and another, Mottisfont, the next morning before continuing our main journey. Turned a travelling day into two days holiday.
Romsey is a very interesting and historic town, with an Abbey and surrounding places placed. Hillier Gardens and The National Trusts Mottisfont is very nearby. Well worth a visit. Good train service and Station nearby, good bus or train service to Southampton. The single traveller will feel quite comfortable. Festivals of interest ‘ The Beggers Fair’ an excellent music festival in the summer. Christmas lights earlier than the nearby cities. Paultons Park great for all the family only 3 miles away.
A lovely market town with a good selection of shops and eating places. Easy to park and not ripoff prices. The department store was excellent as was a lovely cafe come wine bar with super nice homemade cakes.
