Romsey is a very interesting and historic town, with an Abbey and surrounding places placed. Hillier Gardens and The National Trusts Mottisfont is very nearby. Well worth a visit. Good train service and Station nearby, good bus or train service to Southampton. The single traveller will feel quite comfortable. Festivals of interest ‘ The Beggers Fair’ an excellent music festival in the summer. Christmas lights earlier than the nearby cities. Paultons Park great for all the family only 3 miles away.
A lovely market town with a good selection of shops and eating places. Easy to park and not ripoff prices. The department store was excellent as was a lovely cafe come wine bar with super nice homemade cakes.
Rooms are smaller than expected - a double executive is about the size of one of the same type in London and at about 8.30 pm the woman next door knocked on our door to tell us that we are too loud when we were talking normally, so the noise should be considered. Other then that, the bed was comfortable and the room clean and we enjoyed a great dinner on their spacious terrace. The breakfast was also great.
Visited Romsey one evening of our stay and wandered around. An attractive centre with interesting range of buildings. Unfortunately didn't have enough time to explore in more detail in the day time, so hope to come back! Easy to get to Portsmouth, Poole, Southampton and New Forest as well Ate in The Old House at Home - a lovely characterful Fullers pub with an interesting menu. Food was very tasty and plentiful.
We had planned on staying in the New forest but found everything decent already booked so I saw Romsey wasn't far and booked into a hotel there. A very pleasant and picturesque drive from the heart of the new forest to the hotel only took about 20 minutes. We didn't spend any time in Romsey town centre so I can't really comment but the surroundings are lovely. Also we found that because of its proximity to the M3 we were able to get back to Swindon in a hour which was helpful
Our favourite part about Ranvilles was the land it was situated on. Me and my son had great fun identifying the fruit trees. The hosts were very friendly and accomodating, they even gave us a lift when possible. Possibly one of the most pleasant stays I have ever had and the bed was so comfy I preferred it to mime back home.
