It is a lovely village in the heart of the countryside of North Wales with some cute shops and easy to walk around. Street Parking is a bit limited, and car parks a bit expensive (unless the pay machine isn't working!). It is a mix of railway age and modern with a nod to some of its earlier history on the way up to the Castle. There is a museum on that thoroughfare which is open between April and October. The Corner cafe (wells st?) opposite the railway cottages offer a great lunch at a very amenable price. In general, daytime eating places are a bit hard to find unless you are into Costa type places. Overall, I would recommend a visit.
Ruthin is a lovely village / town. We also visited Ruthin Geol, which was really interesting. They do free outdoor tours at 11am and 2pm But Ruthin Castle is absolutely incredible, what a castle!!
A wonderful little town with some great gift shops, artists studios and amazing craft centre for a small town. We had a great realxing time walking around there are some good cafes though pubs could be better. If you want to eat well in town, we recommend booking in advance particularly for places as popular as 'Small Plates.
The original room was disgusting,, ripped wallpaper, dark, shabby bathroom. Offered an alternative which was much better,BUT ironing board was ready for skip, filthy dirty and ripped, television signal was extremely poor, toilet seat hanging off.... cleaners arguing openly with each other in corridor next to guests rooms... Other staff were kind and accommodating and done their best. Food, expensive, but delicious. Bed comfortable.
Yet another case of old castle / stately home trying to be an up market hotel where they make a bedroom out of a space no bigger than a cupboard and sell it under the 'Old heritage, charming character and stately grounds etc. image which maybe fine if you book the several hundred pound a night better rooms otherwise you feel like you've been sent where the servants would go out of the way. It's not old with character, it's old and worn out
Be prepared for a few steep streets, the local bakery and hostelries are well a visit , be aware of the historical buildings and sites well worth a visit and take in the views of surrounding area beauty personified.
Ruthin
We booked 3 apartments within the building. Each one was very clean & homely. The ease of access to the keys was great. Well stocked kitchen cupboards with everything you need in them. Very comfortable lounges & bedrooms. Location was great for Ruthin. With Rhyl & Towyn approx. 30 mins away.
Ruthin
Bathroom was quite nice, although this was separate from the room. The room itself was clean but basic and small; more like a bedroom than a hotel room. Towels and condiments were provided and staff were helpful.
Ruthin
Beautiful old house with en-suite bedroom and one other bedroom and an extra bedroom. Good for up to 7 people. Very well equipped. Ruthin is unexpectedly nice with a castle and art galleries. Lovely!
The hotel is well presented, clean and an interesting building. Food, and drinks, are all both cheap and good. The staff were especially helpful when wife, Jan was not feeling very well.
