We are between houses and were looking for a peaceful place to spend Christmas. we found it in Heatherlea. A beautiful location with everything you need to hand. The views from the back garden are exceptional and parking was right on the doorstep. literally, Our hosts had set up Heatherlea beautifully for Christmas with interior and exterior lights and a well decorated Christmas tree.

We love your bar are the two gentlemen on duty that night we’re just spectacular. We had been told no dinner table until 7.45 but did not advise us we could eat in the bar…….Tony took care of everything. Alex was also very prompt with requests and polite in our dealings. Great evening meal.

Nice village as a base within easy reach of nearby beaches, Staithes, Robin Hoods Bay etc. Also a handy bus stop within 100 yards should you wish to leave the car. Shop just down the road for essentials.

We enjoyed our walks around the village, which has plenty to hand including a Spar supermarket, The Plough Pub. and award winning butcher and baker shops. There is a highly recommended fish and chip shop in Sleights but our trip out on Boxing Day included a visit to the Magpie Café in Whitby (the best fish and chips ever) and live football at Whitby v Morpeth an excellent day out. An exceptional cup of Bovril made up for a disappointing result.

sleights is an ideal inland village within three miles of the yorkshire coast. its a great place to stay as the coast and yorkshires dales are all within easy reach. plus its a lot quieter than the busy seaside resorts with better views of the countryside and no seagull "songs"

Just off the main Road into Whitby, which is very handy for getting into Whitby and the moors. It has a very good butchers, bakers, fish and chip shop and small convenience store. Also a pub but we didnt try this as not serving food over our stay. You are in the countryside.

Great location for exploring North York Moors and East Coast...

Great location for exploring North York Moors and East Coast. It has a train station with access to Pickering and Whitby. The North York M0ors steam railway is very close by with its main base as Grosmont. Plenty of beautiful moorland walks in the vicinity. Whitby is close by with lots going on.. In terms of beaches, I recommend Robin Hood's Bay for rockpools or fossil hunting at Sandsend. In my opinion, the best beach in the area is at Runswick Bay. It has long stretches of sand and rock pools. Although there is a steep hill from the beach to the car park, we were able to bring the car down on to the beach to allow access for my elderly father and then take it back up the hill to park.

Lovely village, the plough does meals from lunch time until 8ish, you have a fish a chip restaurant just across the way, there’s also Eskdaleside antiques over the road with some lovely garden ornaments, and not to forget Perry’s garden centre with tearooms by the river, a gift shop and plants for sale, they have added a little bar which is fab by the river
