Tomintoul
Set in Tomintoul, Gordon House offers mountain views and free WiFi, 43 km from Balmoral Castle and 16 km from Corgarff Castle. This is a dream place! Lez, John and Rob are the bestest hosts! The place is very homely, and the three stars I have just named make the stay more than worthwhile - they make it one of the best B & B experiences I have EVER had. The town itself is so small, and everything there is to see is within a stone's throw away. Lez and Rob are master-chefs in their own right and I would come back again and again to simply partake of their lovely breakfasts and meals. Also, whenever they invited some guest of theirs, they made sure to include me in their company and as I was the only guest staying with them in their rooms, I felt like a proper VIP. Their place has so many interesting and curious things all around! I loved these guys so much that I even made one Indian dinner for THEM on my final evening.

An absolutely great place to get away from the monotony of everyday life The countryside around provides plenty of peaceful walks, skiing is also available at the nearby Lecht Ski Centre, who manage to provide skiing even when there is very little snow about ! The Richmond Arms Hotel is the place to stay. Provides a great base with fantastic ownership, service, food and drink.
Even at the height of summer, be prepared with your layered wind and waterproofs. As long as you have the correct clothing, the fine views to the Cairngorms and village walks can be enjoyed fully. There is plenty of bird life to view. The gift shop and clock restaurant are well appointed and worth patronising.
Friendly village. Lovely cafes and a wonderful gift shop Spendrift. I did some Christmas shopping there and it was only May!. Best bacon rolls ever at the cafe across the main road from the house. We ate out at the Richmond hotel which is dog friendly and we also had an excellent fish supper from a van which comes on a Tuesday late afternoon. There are lots of lovely walks around the village itself as well as others in the surrounding area which is beautiful . Ideal spot for a relaxing holiday.
Perfect location if you are wanting to explore the snow roads and the north east of scotland. We only stayed overnight so can't tell you a lot about the town but it was very pretty and in an excellent location.
Richmond Hotel also did excellent food. Sadly The Clock Restaurant across the road is not currently open due to Covid restrictions. Having been to Tomintoul three times previously I can highly recommend the available accommodation and the location in general.
Tomintoul is small but a convenient centre for much of the Cairngorms. It is on a main road so is easy to find. I went out walking and the Glenliver Estate has a number of marked paths some of which give excellent views/
Tomintoul
B&B work in progress but having said that, the house is an eclectic collection of the life and experiences of the very warm and friendly owners. The breakfast was hearty and filling, showcasing food from the surrounding towns. Location wise, it’s right in the middle of town behind Hotel Square. (It was once the tavern of a hotel at the same site)
We received such a warm welcome from the very friendly staff at the Richmond, and the room was very comfortable and clean. A highlight was the shower, which was just as hot and powerful as you'd want after a long day's walk. We would certainly recommend the Richmond for anyone passing through Tomintoul.
Beautiful spot on the edge of Tomintoul, this wee one bedroom accommodation was an ideal place to enjoy the village and the beauty of the surrounding area. The view from the well equipped cottage is glorious and facilities made our stay very comfortable.

Lovely hotel with very nice staff. The bed was so comfy, if it wasn't for the beautiful scenery I wouldn't have left it
