The property was beautiful in a reserved old building style. The breakfast room/dining room was gorgeous and the furnishings were stunning. Staff were lovely. It was just a few hundred metres to the Windermere strip shops, had private off road parking and the £3pp each way bus to Bowness where the lake cruises leave from was only a couple of hundred metres away. Breakfast was great and the staff very helpful with the luggage.

Hotel overall was fantastic. Decor in rooms was lovely, facilities were more than adequate, and the hot tub was huge for two people. The bed was huge and very comfortable. The view from our superior hot tub room was unreal looking over Lake Windermere. Same goes for the view from the hotel restaurant. Staff were lovely and took their time explaining everything to us. Location was also great, just 5 minutes drive from Bowness on Windermere.

Windermere is separate from the lake that is in Bowness.

Windermere is separate from the lake that is in Bowness. Both communities are interconnected and walkable. It is very touristy but that is part of the energy of the place. Had a great meal at the Flying Pig and pizza at the Tap House. We had the mandatory ice cream and it was worth the line!

Lots of tea rooms and a few nice restaurants.

Lots of tea rooms and a few nice restaurants. A little bit pricey but food is good. big shops Sainsbury’s and the co op. A good base to use for going to ambleside and keswick and south to Bowness if you use the buses they are every 20 mins Monday to Friday .weekend a bit longer. Cheap fares to get to the other tourist areas . I was lucky I have a seniors bus pass . So saved the bus fares.

Windermere is a lovely spot but a tourist trap.

Windermere is a lovely spot but a tourist trap. There are better locations based on quality and proximity to good walks. Its a good place to start but people seeking a good base for walks are advised to look a little further north (but not far!)

Windermere is a great location as a base for exploring the Lake District as it is a hub for rail and bus routes. Days out using the buses is far less stressful than using a car - see the views, and have no worries about parking etc. Do look at the map. Windermere IS NOT next to Lake Windermere - but a long walk / bus journey away to Bowness-on-Windermere. Windermere is quieter, but still with many shops/cafes . By contrast Bowness-on-Windermere is a very popular destination for coach-trips, with many "tourist shops" and the starting point for many ferry/cruises onto the lake. My choice would be to stay in Windermere and then have a half day visit Bowness-on-Windermere.

We packed our days with things to do.

We packed our days with things to do. We arrived on the Wednesday exploring (we have been before but years ago) Thursday we walked to beatrix potters house, took the ferry over. I love anything history. Called in a pub halfway there for a drink was a lovely warm day. Came back and took a boat outon our own (loved it) Friday we had a boat tour on the yellow line, was nice to drink tea while sailing and watching the lovely views. Got back and booked another boat ride on our own. You should try this. I recommend it. Lovely experience. Had an Italian for our anniversay and birthday meal and a pub meal we had pie each that was lovely too. Had a chippy tea another night. Therws an open top bus that tours around the lake district if your not too good with walking. Theres always something to do for everyone. These were the highlights. Not enough room to put it all down. was great fun

Windermere is a lovely place and with a car it is a good base to get around and see the surrounding areas. This time we hired a boat and went out on the Lake which was fun, but not when it rained! Also visited the car museum. We’ve been a few times over the years but this was the first time we had been during the school holidays and it was really busy. I think I would prefer to go when the schools are back or at least before the English schools are off (we live in Scotland so start our Summer holidays a couple of weeks earlier).

Applegarth Villa Hotel is located in a beautiful and central location in Windermere. The suite ‘Great How’, which we stayed in was extremely luxurious, including a hot tub on the balcony, a SPA bath with TV, a lounge area with TV, a comfortable and cosy bedroom with TV, two balconies with views of the Windermere mountains and many other facilities. The restaurant and bar facilities were also excellent, with a wide selection of delicious ‘gluten free’ options for breakfast and dinner.

Central location to Windermere and Bowness. Immaculate room and bathroom with tea/coffee making facilities. We liked that it was an adult only hotel as this limited noise in early hours. Our hosts were friendly and professional and answered any questions we had. Free parking was perfect for a busy town. Room was made up (fresh towels) if requested. They also offered a breakfast package (we did not have this included but would consider the next time we visit)!

Such a great spot for a solo traveler! Comfy bed, your own bathroom, enough space to relax after a long day. The rain shower was amazing, The whole place was very clean and the hosts were super responsive via the booking.com app. Getting in and out of the building/room was easy. Plus free parking. Honestly a hidden gem in a town known for expensive hotel rooms/family oriented places.

Great location with beautiful grounds. Spacious room with good facilities. The hotel is a little bit outside of Windermere but a short drive and has a bus stop at the end of the property’s driveway. The decor is a ageing a bit but it fits the vibe of the place. Clean and tidying.
