Cragwood Country House Hotel lies on the shores of Lake Windermere in the Lake District National Park. With acres of landscaped gardens, this hotel offers free on-site parking and Wi-Fi. The hotel exceeded my expectations and the location was fantastic, staff really friendly and always very accommodating and nothing is to much for them. We dined in the restaurant one night and had a suburb meal so compliments to the chef. I would definitely stay here again.
Hotel in Windermere
On the edge of Lake Windermere in the Lake District National Park, Merewood Country House Hotel was built in 1812 and retains many original features. The hotel is set well off the road on the side of a hill looking over Lake Windermere, surrounded by woods and beautifully manicured lawns and flower beds. Our room was very nice and spacious with a huge double bed. Very comfy. We stayed for three days and found the peace and beauty of the place very comforting. Just walking around the grounds and local area was a real treat. Luckily the weather was also very good which was a real bonus. The meals were excellent especially the tasting menu we had for dinner on our second night there in the Arboreal Room. The other two nights we ate in the Grill Room and were equally impressed with the quality of those meals too. As for breakfast the buffet breakfast was as expected where you could have as much or as little as you wanted with a very nice list of specials, if a full English was too much. The staff were all very nice and attentive too. Nothing was too much for them. We would highly recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a nice tranquil, country house experience.

The Lake District can get very busy during the holiday periods so make sure you plan your days ahead. Being earlier mean you can find spaces in the car park and bet the queue to get that scenic photos without other people.
Windermere has a variety of options for families and solo travellers: there are one or two really good eateries, Cafe Italia being just one. A wide range of shops (should it rain!) and a number of cafes, for popping in for cake and coffee. The short walk Windermere to Bowness allows you to visit the Riley Gelato establishment (pistachio is my favourite) and if there is a sale on you can check out any potential bargains. Plus Peter Rabbit, a must for any children - and some of us are older than others. Windermere bus station is also a godsend: you can travel to various parts of the Lakes before you start your walk. All in all the beautiful countryside, the walks, Orrest Head is a good walk to begin with. Being a lake, I always enjoy the Lakeside trip combined with the steam train - and there are some really good boats trip to be undertaken.
DO NOT MISS the fixed price dinner! One of the best meals and you are treated like royalty. THe views are amazing. The staff go above and beyond to make the stay special. The breakfast is cooked to order and also so delicious! YOU WILL NOT REGRET booking the Cragwood!
We loved Windermere on our stay. Wish we had booked to stay for longer as we were only using it as a stop over for our journey to Penrith. I would highly recommend Bandito Burrito as a highlight for a late lunch/early dinner option. Brilliant options for meat eaters and vegans alike! Staff were really friendly too. Everything was in easy walking distance for us and the routes around the Lake were really pretty. Looks like there's a lot more than Windermere has to offer and we would definitely come back.
Windermere Hotel is convenient for the bus terminus (local to Bowness every 20 mins) and tourist Information Office. Windermere town centre is compact with a variety of eateries. The Crafty Baa pub being the most 'off beat' and cheery. Bowness is a vibrant Lakeside town catering for all Visitor needs. Lake cruises are very pleasant. Really interesting Nat Trust properties are nearby as is the Lakeland Motor Museum which is excellent and varied - even my wife enjoyed it!
Windermere is a great place for both family vacations and solo travellers, with a variety of outdoor activities and a wide choice of pubs and restaurants. (Try nearby Bowness as well, for more options.) In summer, it gets really crowded. Visiting off-season is recommended.
Windermere
Luxury in a great location, staff are friendly, welcoming and helpul, all adding to an exceptional level of customer service. Excellent room with hugh comfy bed, moden furniture, walk in wardrobe incorporating a well stocked mini bar.The bathroom is superb to say the least with a spa bath, walk in shower, tv and subtle lighting that all adds to a wonderful relaxing mood. Breakfast choices are excellent with a quality to match. Whats not to like about Windermere Suites.... In summary.. Outstanding. All ready booked again.
The Windermere restaurant food in the evening was fantastic and not a bad price. The spa facilities while not huge it is one of the best I have used in the UK. Sadly didn't get time for a treatment but still filled 3 hours in there! The room was clean and cozy and there was a lovely touch of a card, balloons and chocolates as we celebrated our wedding anniversary during our stay. The staff were all friendly and I would definitely return or recommend the hotel.
Windermere
The property is located perfectly for both Winderemere and Bowness on Windermere. We travelled by train and found there were good public transport links. The owners were very welcoming and offered tips for things to do, local walks and places to eat. The room itself was spacious, extremely clean and turned down daily. I have a healthy appetite and the breakfast was fantastic - kept you going for a late lunch!
Windermere
Bijou cottage but stocked with absolutely every possible thing you could need or wish for in a holiday cottage (apart from lack of freezer or a freezer compartment in the fridge). Great views from the front with Lake Windermere visible through the trees. Loved the short walk down the lane to the lakeside jetty. 30 minute amble into Bowness, 15 - 20 minute walk into Windermere. Reserved parking spot.
The location of this hotel is fabulous - beautiful gardens lead down to the shores of Lake Windermere. Perfect for swimming! We loved the spacious rooms and the historic building. The staff were so friendly and helpful. Fellow guests were delightful. We liked that it was a small hotel so it felt more like a private house party. Great food.
Absolutely loved our stay at the Windermere Manor Hotel. Very friendly staff and lovely hotel. Nice walk down into Bowness so hotel location a bit out of the way but it wasn’t a problem as it doesn’t take long to walk round into Windermere or down to Bowness. Will definitely be back.
Windermere
Beautiful and spotlessly clean room. Linda is such a lovely host, Janet is diligent. Glen the dog is so very friendly. I may say it is even better than at home, or at any hotels in the area. The walk to the station is a stroll away. A bargain through and through.
Windermere
A very cozy hotel situated on the outskirts of Windermere centre and only a short walk from Bowness. The landlady Liz was very thoughtful and friendly. The breakfast was superb with a good choice, something to suit everyone.

This place was perfectly located to come straight from the train station and be near the city centre, harbor, and lake. A gorgeous little spot in England, with super friendly locals and lovely scenery! My room was comfortable and had everything I needed, and I appreciated the host accommodating a slightly early checkin for me.
Everything was perfect, the room was lovely, staff very friendly and breakfast was good. Would definitely stay again maybe for a little longer ...
