Lovely little town with lots of cute souvenir shops, nice pubs, cafes and coffee shops. There's plenty to do for a few hours. Parking is mostly free with a time limit which is good out of season- but they're like gold dust peak season. If you want to see the actual Lake- go to Bowness- on- Windermere.

Loved the excellent quality of the food in such a larger number of the local restaurants. Really enjoyed walking from Windermere to Hilltop, Hawkshead, Wray Castle and Ambleside via the car ferry from Cockshot Point. Bus trip to Keswick was great. Best of all was the free guided walk through Kentmere Valley offered by National Park volunteers. I'll be back to for more of the walks offered. Wonderful way to discover the glories of North Western England.

Windermere is beautiful.
Windermere is beautiful. Friendly town just up the hill from Bowness where the ferries are. I managed to get around on several ferry routes, buses, and took one tour covering ten lakes. Thoroughly enjoyable!

Lovely place.
Lovely place. A good spot to explore locations around the lake with public transportation. Bowness is reachable by walk. However for hiking Ambleside might be more appropriate (all the outdoor clothing stores are there by the way).

Very changeable weather, so take advantage of it when it's good!
Sun was shining on our first night so we booked an evening cruise which is timed to coincide with the sunset, it was fab! Great photo opps, bit very calming too.
We had lunch at The Brew Room, the staff there Emma & Erin, were so lovely, we will definitely go back when we return. Food was delicious.
Everything was fabulous. The room was clean, spacious and had everything we needed. The food was delicious in the restaurant- we were a party of 11, everyone had something different and everyone commented on how much they enjoyed the meal. Breakfast was delicious too! All the staff were polite, friendly and helpful. The pool area was clean, modern and relaxing.
We all had a fantastic time and will definitely be returning.
Thanks to all the team at the Windermere Manor hotel.
