The Ancient Briton, hotel in Ystalyfera

Featuring a garden, bar and views of mountain, The Ancient Briton is set in Pen-y-cae, 30 km from Grand Theatre.

The staff couldn't do enough for you. Always friendly, helpful, professional. The food we had was utterly delicious! All locally sourced. During our stay we had: Blue Burger (my partner raved about this!), normal burger, haddock & chips, pork belly bites (starter), stick toffee pudding with ice cream. Welsh breakfasts. Gluten free. Breakfast set us up for the day perfectly. You pre-order breakfast and this means it is exactly what you want, when you want. Served with a smile. Our room was lovely. Clean. Comfortable. Shower was great. The room was in keeping with the style of the pub which was lovely. This is a busy, welcoming, warm pub. We are already looking at when we can come back again! Well worth the 6 hour journey (each way). Set in one of the most beautiful parts of Wales.

Little London Bed & Breakfast and Glamping pod, hotel in Ystalyfera

Boasting a garden and views of river, Little London Bed & Breakfast and Glamping pod is a guest house set in a historic building in Abercraf, 27 km from Grand Theatre.

Absolutely everything about our short stay was perfect. From our warm and helpful hosts, to the very high quality touches in this beautiful converted property (toiletries, bedding and towels, tea, coffee and refreshments). The breakfast was outstanding, and the photos of this guesthouse do not (and could not) do the actual beauty and tranquility of the setting justice. A rare find, and one of the best night’s sleep we’ve had (after watching the birds and bats and listening to the babbling river from the beautiful Treetops suite) in a very long time. We can’t wait to come back as a base for our next cycle ride!

Nice location, easy to get to the all the sites in the Brecon Beacons and black mountains. Four Waterfall walk was amazing as well as climbing the Pan Y Far mountain - all within easy reach of Ystalyfera. Also a trip to Tenby Beach is a must.

Genuinely, there wasn't anything I disliked about Ystalyfera. It has some lovely independent shops and is only a five-minute drive from the Brecon Beacons National Park. And a visit to the Chameleon Cafe is a must!

The staff were accommodating especially the head chef who went out his way to make us feel welcome and accommodated. There was no gas the 1st night we stayed which resulted in eating else where because the pub/hotel worked off a gas pub, so the restaurant was out of action for mainly hot food. The 2nd night totally made up for the 1st, the food was absolutely gorgeous although there was a wait time, we didn’t mind waiting the food was worth it.

3 of us stayed in a 3 bed room and it was plenty big enough. The facilities were great and we had a massive shared balcony. We had a booked a meal one evening and everything about that too was great. Breakfast was included in our rate and was huge. We were able to arrange a slightly earlier start as we had to be away on course early. The hotel were happy to do that which was really appreciated. Plenty of free parking.

Everything was just perfect and Julia the best host ever. The location was stunning, close to the BMW Off-Road School I was attending. Breakfast out of this world in the conservatory looking out over the incredible Beacon Beacons. Why would anyone want to stay in a hotel when you get this standard...right down to the duck eggs fresh that morning from the farm itself. Just absolutely wonderful.

The staff are helpful and friendly, our room was spacious, the location is excellent and the breakfasts are very generous. Perfect to set you up for a day exploring the beautiful countryside on the doorstep. The river that runs directly outside the hotel is beautiful and there is a lovely decking area that overlooks it, which we loved.

Brilliant place where you can even meditate. The host Julia is so friendly and careful. She was so glad and prepared vegan breakfast. We appreciate that very much! It was our first stop on the way to Wales and we started from the hotel with fabolous mood. Thanks for that!
