Makarska, a small town along Croatia’s Dalmatian Coast, is absolutely worth visiting! Its natural harbor, historic old town, and lively beach scene make it a popular destination. Here’s what you need to know:
Getting There: The closest airport is Split (about 65 km away). Buses from popular cities can be taken, but renting a car is ideal. The scenic coastal route offers stunning views.
Makarska Riviera: This 60 km coastal road winds through small villages below Mount Biokovo. Take your time to explore beautiful beaches and towns along the way.
Old Town: Makarska’s vibrant old town features a seafront promenade with cafes, restaurants, and boats in the harbor.
Whether you visit in peak summer or quieter months, Makarska won’t disappoint!
This beach, backed by a long promenade, is where everyone gathers

Villa Dijana is beautiful.
Villa Dijana is beautiful. I liked the room, very clean, comfortable bed. The host Gordana was very kind, friendly, offered free coffee, biscuits and juice. She even lent me an umbrella so I could walk because it was a rainy day. The kitchen is shared and each room has its own refrigerator. There is a terrace with a view of Biokovo. It is not far from the beach, about 15 minutes and everything is right there. If you are a bit older or not in the best condition and you plan to walk to the beach and back to the villa, it is a bit of a challenge since there is a big uphill to the villa. If you have a car, it's not a problem, but you have to pay for parking wherever you go. Otherwise, I would recommend this place for vacation.

A small wonderful town right on the water.
A small wonderful town right on the water. It is super crowded on the beach but if you don’t mind that it’s worth it. Wonderful restaurants and beautiful walking areas in town. Amazing old buildings and a very charming old town. Perfect for a few days getaway. The water is crystal clear and the food is delicious. Everyone speaks English and people are friendly. There are playgrounds for small children and lots of fun in the water for older kids like pedal boats, jetskis and “jumping areas” out in the water. Perfect for families.
But don’t forget the sunscreen! 😀 ☀️

They developed the services a lot, really good small pebble covered beach in a huge bay protected from high winds by Brac island in front of the bay. Many good restaurants, OK parking, nice port with old buildings in great condition. The apartments are usually higher up on a steep mountain side, providing a harder walk but a better view :)
We drove over from the opposite side of the Adriatic sea, so we could compare it with the Italian side (Jesolo area), and the prices were almost the same, the pebble beach maybe better (at least clearer water than the sandy beach across), less windy, but still missing the happiness coming from the Italian people, and the highest quality in food and entertainment, Croatia a bit more laid back, things are not a smoothly organized as on the Italian Adria. The only thing really bothersome is the restaurant stuff coming over a few seconds after you start reading the menu placed in front of their places. They do not give you any time to read it through. I know in some countries they do this, but I always leave when they do not give me time to choose based on the menu.
We loved every minute of our stay at Villa Medak, it was clean, comfortable and had everything we needed, the pool and the views were absolutely amazing. Dennis was so welcoming and helpful, we enjoyed our stay so much that we returned the following week whilst on our travels around Croatia, thank you for the most amazing stay in Makarska, it was our favourite place we visited.
Excellent hotel in a beautiful town of Makarska. Staff was extremely polite, breakfast was very good, our room was way beyond expectation, and hotel is right there on the beach . Cleanliness - simply impeccable! I have only good words about the hotel and I would definitely go back there. Strong recommendation!
This hotel is simply amazing, the position is perfect (just in front of the beach and centrally located), the breakfast is delicious and the staff is very kind. Surely I will be back to Makarska the next year and I will book again this hotel.
We had a really good time in Valamar hotel! The hotel staff was nice and gave us a room upgrade as well as an early check in. I would recommed the hotel as it has great facilities and is in the center of Makarska.
The best apartment in good price that i've ever visited in Croatia.
Greeting was really kind and it feels like home.
Surely I'll visit again if I would be here someday
