Sibenik ending up being one of the surprise highlights of our trip! The Old Town is quaint and beautiful. It did not feel touristy and yet felt welcoming to tourists. There were plenty of restuarants with a variety of choices. We visited the end of June as the annual International Children's festival was winding up and the town was decorated with streamers with hanging flags of children's drawing--so charming! We liked most the smaller places we visited on our trip: Sibenik and Rovinj. Our two favorite towns. They both had the feel of the medieval towns that they are; easy to enjoy because fewer tourists than in other parts of Croatia. Great seafood; great pizza. The cathedral in Sibenik is a marvel. It is the only cathedral in all of Europe that was built entirely of stone. The town is situated on a beautiful bay with boat access to the Krka Waterfalls. The town itself is charming. It was a welcome refuge after crowded Dubrovnik. It was wonderful to be among Croatians instead of just tourists. The town is nice and well-kept. The town, white for the choice of tuff and marble, is literally dazzling on sunny days. People are kind. Prices are slightly high, especially if you think about the cost of a simple bottle of water, which can reach up to 4 euros. However, it is worth a visit. Sibenik is a great place to stay for the town & sights there...
Sibenik is a great place to stay for the town & sights there, but also as a springboard to get to Split/Dubrovnik Kkra National Park & local towns. The Sibenik card was a good idea in theory, but we found some sights (The cathedral) could not process the QR code that we were issued with. The bus station also could not issue the 3 day bus pass & we had to go to the Tourist Information office where the very helpful guy phoned the supervisor of the bus station. We then had to return to the bus station to collect our 3 day bus pass. The old town is full of interesting history, the museum a real gem too. Despite going to Sibenik mid October, there were still hoards of tours from the cruise ships, making the visit to the cathedral very difficult. Not great for vegetarians, with pasta/pizza available at many places. Definitely wouldn't be easy for vegans!Guest review bySusanUnited Kingdom
