The breakfast was fantastic, a huge choice of both cold and cooked food. The house looked out over a lovely view of green countryside, a mountain and a lake. And the hosts were very welcoming but took care not to be intrusive.

there are beautiful beach walks in the area but it takes some driving to get to them. It is a major golfing destination so very good for that. We are not golfers.
We had a good time there with good beach walks. It is a remote area. We would have no reason to return.

The perfect base for exploring North Donegal, close enough to Glenveagh National Park, Fanad lighthouse (via Harry Blaney Bridge) and Inishowen Peninsula (via ferry from Rathmullan)
Ards Forest Park (and Friary) only 20 mins away is well worth a visit, the coastal walk from Friary leads to the most spectacular secluded beaches
There are two wonderful beaches, Tra Beag in the town and Tra Mor just outside.
Plenty of places to eat with two hotels in the village, plus Fisks for Sea food, The Galley for Gourmet Burgers, Goose and Gander for Pizza, as well as the Singing Pub just outside the village (Steak on the Stone)

The beaches were beautiful, you could go for lovely long walks, and with 2 dogs with us, this was great. Ards Forest Park was lovely and worth many visits. We ate in the Singing Pub a number of times, food was excellent. Takeaways from the Goose and Gander very good. Golf at Rosapenna Golf Courses challenging and enjoyable. Altogether a great week in Downing’s. We will be back, hopefully.

We had a lovely time in Downings except for the weather but as we are from Belfast we are used to it. It is a very scenic place very down with nature which is a lovely change. There are very few shops most of the town seems to be closed which is a pity. Having transport is a must, you can travel around, we weren't able to see things due to the weather but there is nothing you can do about that.
This was the ideal place to stay the night before my round at St.Patricks Links. Coastal Heaven is right in the middle of town and close to everything.
The bed was the most comfortable one I have slept in while in Ireland.
Mairead and Joe were great hosts and looked after me when I left a few things behind in a rush to make my tee time. The directional instructions by video were great.
Will stay here next time I’m in Downings.
Absolutely love going to Downings for a long weekend trip. Seamus is so accommodating each & every time we have been there. We wouldn’t stay anywhere else other than Coastguard Cottages as it is just so convenient to Downings town & the restaurants & pubs are fabulous😍
dinner menu didn't have a lot of choice. more pub grub not what what i was expecting even ate in another hotel the folowing night where menu was much more appealing
Breakfast was really good satff very attentive and came down with plenty juice tea etc....
