Out trip is mainly focused on the temples around the karaikudi. We are able to cover all the places which we have planned. Food and places in karaikudi all are wonderful. We had our food in hotel annapoorna opposite to hotel sugam. Also we have covered one karaikudi palace and it had 650 windows. We heard there is a place which has 1000 windows but that place is little far for us to cover.

The mansions of the Chettiars are worth it to visit Karaikudi. Better do it sooner than later, as one by one they are being demolished for reasons that are perfectly understandable. The families do not live here any longer and the maintenance costs must be rather high.
Most importantly, having a good guide is essential and we were fortunate to have in Annapoorni, a proud Chettiar herself, as our guide - a fountain of knowledge about the Chettiars history and their mansions-passionately imparted in a story telling manner. She did indeed bring to life the deserted mansions.

Skip the Chettinad Palace and Thousand windows because it is not open for public. Instead go for Mansion Hopping, a few to go are VVR Heritage House and CVRM Heritage House, SASRM. Better to avoid the one very next to VVR Heritage especially if you are a solo traveler, the lady of the place doesn't like to host solo travelers. Take a stroll through the village, a mesmerizing experience that would be.
Athangudi Palace is worth the visit and if interested please do visit Athangudi Tiles also
Don't Skip Thirumayam Fort and Sittannavasal Jain Cave too. Those are the best nearby attractions

Great place to visit for temples and Chettinad architecture.
Wanted to experience Chettinad cuisine but it was difficult to find local cuisine of good quality. Could find good quality local food at high end restaurants only.
