SwitzerlandWe were warmly welcomed by Giovanni. This country hotel is a unique concept, where an old Sicilian manor has been freshly renovated. This way, the family running this hotel has preserved the charm of the property while giving it a modern touch. We felt comfortable from the first second onwards.
The Flora Sicula is beautifully situated between the sea and Mount Etna. The rooms provide everything you need to have a relaxing stay, and the beautiful terrace offers the possibility to enjoy the view even more. The next morning, we were served a delicious breakfast with homemade bakery and jam as well as bacon, eggs, fruits, etc. The whole house is tastefully decorated, and the owner family as well as the staff were extremely friendly.

ItalyThe attention to details. I just casually mentioned that the pillows were a little on the soft side for our liking yesterday and boom....we were given the firm type of pillows that were actually what we were expecting.
This is service with a star. I'm not a regular tourist writing this review. I live in this city and we're staying for a couple of days due to some home renovations. And when I say this is service, I meant it. You cannot expect such attention here in Sicily. For that matter, even in some hotels in Europe.
I will definitely recommend Aghena to anyone visiting.

Giarre and neighbouring Riposto are unspoilt small towns...
Giarre and neighbouring Riposto are unspoilt small towns with few tourists. We were the only foreigners wherever we ate. La Tavernetta was our favourite. The seafood market in Riposto was a perfect source for the meals we cooked in our suite. Driving in Sicily is fun as long as you copy the locals. Use Apple maps for navigation - Google maps was useless.

It's a small town by the sea...
It's a small town by the sea... It's not very "touristy" but it's a perfect base to visit Taormina, the etna, Catania. Overall I would say it's more convenient then charming! The fish market, the port, the local park with playground and some seafood restaurants made our stay in Giarre more than ok!

Giarre is not a great tourist attraction.
Giarre is not a great tourist attraction. However it is a great center for touring East Sicily.
We found it very strange that Sicilians keep to their siesta even in winter. After sunset when it got very dark and a bit cold, we did not feel like going to a restaurant (they open at 6 or 7). So we cooked our dinners. Good for us, bad for them.

Francessco was one of the best hosts we've ever had. Was accommodating and informative from before we arrived until the day we left. The apartment had insane views of mount etna, was luxuriously decorated and the car was parked safely in the courtyard. the apartment had absolutely everything we needed and more. It was one of the best booking.com stays we've ever had. We will be going back 100% - it will be our Giarre hub when we go to visit for sure.

If you’re looking for a stay in the rural Sicily this is the place for you. But bear in mind that this may include some undesired insect visits (namely millipedes and mosquitoes), luckily we always travel with a plug-in mosquito repellent.
It’s a good place if you want to visit nearby Taormina, Etna and maybe wineries nearby. The staff is really nice and helpful and you have a kitchen if wanting to prepare a light meal.

Amazing property - our favourite place we stayed on Sicily!
Lella is a wonderful and welcoming host. She was helpful throughout our time and provided numerous recommendations for restaurants, wineries, Taormina, and even an area to go for a run.
The property itself is beautiful and well maintained with a great pool and views of Etna. It feels secluded and quiet.
Room was great and very spacious.

The staff were very friendly and welcoming. Breakfast was excellent, with plenty of choice including fresh cakes, croissants, pancakes, and fruits. The online check-in was a great feature and really helpful, as I arrived very late due to flight issues. The room was spacious, the hotel was quiet, and the spa was clean and good value for money.
