On a narrow peninsula protruding into Lake Garda, Sirmione is a wonderful town famed for its multi-turreted castle, Roman remains and hot springs.
The 13th-century lakeside castle makes quite an impressive sight as you cross its drawbridge to enter the old town beyond. From its walls there are lovely views of red-roofed buildings towards the trees hiding the ruins of a huge villa that belonged to 1st-century BC Roman poet Catullus. Part of the complex included baths featuring the thermal waters, and the town still has a spa today on the opposite side of the promontory.
Nearby is the Church of Santa Maria Maggiore with its 15th-century frescoes, and the surrounding narrow, cobbled streets are home to stone buildings and several Sirmione hotels on Lake Garda. The majority of hotels are mid-range, but there are still a few 4 and 5-star hotels in Sirmione to choose from.
Booking.com also has lots of accommodations by the lake in the newer part of town, and its Lugana Vecchia area has a UNESCO World Heritage-listed prehistoric site.
To the west of Sirmione is the lakefront town of Desenzano del Garda, while to the east is Peschiera del Garda, close to the Gardaland and Canevaworld theme parks. The nearest airport is Verona Catullo Airport to the southeast.

Sirmione is a ridiculously pretty town on a peninsula jutting out into Lake Garda. I’m sure it is packed with visitors in summer but was very peaceful on our November visit. Some shops and restaurants were closed for the winter but there was enough open to spend a very pleasant couple of days. The castle offers great views and the Roman ruins were fascinating. A beautiful place.

I spent 3 nights at Sirmione as a base to explore Verona and Lake Garda (perfect for both). I spent half a day in Sirmione itself which was OK for ff season. I had time for a walk around, a boat trip around the peninsular and an evening visit to the thermal spa (aquaria) however a full day would have been ideal.

Loved the traffic free streets and away from the shops and restaurants the old tranquil and beautiful Sirmione could easily be found. All around the peninsular glorious views of Lake Garda could be enjoyed. The small boat trip around the peninsular was a particular highlight.
Be sure to research parking before arrival as no cars are allowed into Sirmione old town but parking provision is close

The old Town was beautiful but always busy and the narrow streets can be crowded with people and vehicles. Lots of excellent restaurants and Gelatarias. Must see is the castle, and Roman Villa ruins, a visit to Jamaica Beach also recommended

Such a fab hotel! Couldn’t fault it in any way. Staff so friendly and could not do enough for you. We were a large group of 12 women and all staff made sure we were truly accommodated. Our table was set every morning for 12. Marta and Laura and all staff were just brilliant & so helpful. Perfect location too, with local buses going to Simione and Verona. Pool clean and has a pool bar. Cleaners in each day too. Breakfast was excellent. I’ve stayed in many hotels in Italy and this was exceptional. I will
Definitely return.
Such an idyllic location overlooking Lake Garda. Sirmione is such a busy place but the hotel is so peaceful and relaxing even though it is so close to all the action in the town. Fantastic stay for a relaxing break away. Beautiful breakfast, impeccable cleanliness and helpful staff. Would love to return.
